    Question Can't uninstall preinstalled apps

On my Droid 2, I went into the Application Management settings and noticed that the option to uninstall apps that came preinstalled by Verizon is grayed out. Is this by design? Does VZW believe it knows better than the users what apps we should have on our phones? Do I need to root to be able to uninstall preinstalled apps?

I charge forward recklessly, leaving chaos in my wake.
Boycott phones that lack microSD storage and removable batteries! Do not allow the user experience to be diminished!

It should come as no surprise that Verizon and/or Google want certain apps to never be deleted.

Heh. Well, let them do what they like. Now that I'm rooted, I just need to figure out how to mount the system folder and then I can delete the APK files.

Once you remove any of the included apps, you can't get ota updates.

...which, if you've rooted (read: already voided your warranty) shouldn't bother you because you can now use leaked updates and apply them EARLIER than OTA's. Root Explorer will give you access to your /data folder and you can delete .apk files from there. I think it was $3.99ish.

I read that if you leave City Data alone, you can still get OTA updates. I only got rid of Skype and froze Car Dock, using Titanium Backup.
