This is taking for ever...even Samsung released he update already...when is bell going to follow?
Maybe by the end of November.
I'm also getting tired of waiting. First Samsung takes forever and then the update disappears into the bowels of Bell not to be seen until ???.
I've read a few pieces about it but now experiencing for myself how the open-ness of Android is being used in a bad way and customers lose.
Froyo has been out for 6 months, but it has to go through a gauntlet before we get it on our devices. First Samsung takes 5+ months after it's out to get it ready for the Galaxy S, now Bell is doing FSM-knows-what to that version while we twiddle our thumbs. Two layers of delays it's really annoying.
I would say 'why can't they make devices work with stock android' but the weird part is that for the most part they do! People who are so inclined can hack stock versions of android on with few major problems. Those of use who wait for 'official' versions meanwhile are lucky to have an Android version before the next one comes out. We're waiting all this time for a few interface tweaks but mostly a boatload of specific apps (especially in the case of the carrier) to be crammed in there.
2.3 is imminent and 3.0 is scheduled early next year. When will we see either of those? At some point in there I'm going to give up on the vendor-specific software and go straight for the goods, but it's lame that those who play in the official box are stuck in a constant upgrade limbo.
Samsung released the i9000 version to the nordic region as per their Press release. They indicated that it would be available for the rest of the world by the end of November. The update is released by Samsung on Kies and not by Bell so dont blame the carrier for this. We just have a couple of weeks to go before we get the 2.2. update.
Ah OK I stand corrected. I guess I'm not too familiar with how Android works in terms of upgrading and factory reset, but how will we get the Bell apps (ie the PVR)? Still 6+ months for Samsung to chew on the update is lame.
On another topic, there might be lots of people frustrated with Kies when the update comes out. I tried everything to get it to work on my laptop and it was a no go, but it worked on my desktop instantly.
Is there really anything in 2.2 that you NEED to have? By all accounts 2.2 is a big meh, at least for the SGS anyway.
I bought the SGS more because I know there are SO many devices out there worldwide that it will have a huge community around it (already does really). If Samsung doesn't come together beyond 2.3 for the SGS the community likely will.
is the new firmware included in the 2.2 or its a separate thing, I had a bad expierence upgrading it through KIES whrn the GXYS came out, it put the phone in a rebooting loop, they exchanged the phone 4 me, hope its fixed by now,
How will Mac users be able to upgrade since Kies is Windows only? Are we SOL?
Someone at XDA said they know someone at Bell and Monday will see the release of 2.2 in Ontario and a bit later in other provinces. Here's hoping.
AS for the upgrade, the one thing I'm waiting for is Voice dialing over Bluetooth which is supposed to be in it.
And tomorrow, you can buy a 2.2 Galaxy device from Bell. But it's the Tab.![]()
Urself25, are you sure about this? On another site, someone posted that 2.2 HTC Desire update was OTA (90.6 MB). If there are Bell-branded 2.1 apps for the Galaxy, how do they make it through on a froyo update via Kies?

*sigh* im getting tired of my ecalir. I need some frozen yogurt and maybe a bit of gingerbread for Christmas.![]()
lol I got tired of waiting like weeks ago so I just went on xda and flashed the doc's custom rom. It's on the galaxy i9000 android and development subforum near the top (one of the popular threads there).
can be flashed from any firmware and upgrades u to 2.2 with a bunch of tweaks and other features. Runs smooth too.
flashing it was extremely easy too
Is Galaxy S coming to AT&T?
