I just got my Desire preloaded with 2.2 over a week ago. I was 19 months into a 3 year contract with a crappy Sam M540. I gladly paid the $95 Cdn to extend my contract to basically give me another 3 year term plus $35 Cdn to transfer the phone.

So far, zero issues with the Desire. Fantastic screen and navigation on the Android. The speed and convenience makes me want to dump my Lenovo S10 netbook; which btw has 2GB RAM and a 40GB SSD with Linux Mint 10 so it is no slouch. The 5MP camera is great for photos and the 720p video (though only 12fps) is pretty good too.

No urge to root the phone right now as it has enough potential the way it is. ;-)

Well I'm glad to hear all the good votes of confidence for the phone. I am getting mine and can't wait to start toying around with it! I am a complete noob and have been hearing a bit as well about this "froyo" OS. Me being a nerd and wanting the best of everything will have to investigate. Time to begin some research... lol

Great phone Ive had it for about 4 months now. I only had one major issue with it when within the first 3 weeks where the proximity sensor stopped responding causing the screen to lock during calls. The problem was later fixed by telus even though my phone was unlocked and used on the Rogers network. The desire has lots of great features including flash browser support, mobile spot, 720p video recording, etc. Only two main negatives for me: battery life issues and low internal memory storage for apps. Both of these can be solved by rooting which will let you partition your memory card for extra storage of apps and under clock the processor so that battery life can be saved. You can also get an extra battery or extra chargers for the battery life. The sense UI is also very cool and unique.

I love my Desire! I've got it rooted and running OxygeN RC6. It's super lean with very little bloat.

Battery life is my only gripe. I run setCPU to throttle the CPU and make sure I bump charge it when I'm in the car or before I go out for the night.

The only reason I haven't gone to android or any touch phone for that matter is typing as I consider myself to be a power texter sending over 1,000 texts per month. Wife got a desire and I'm really impressed with the voice recognition feature. very accurate. And equally impressed that keypads can be downloaded and customized to the point I may make the switch. But not until telus starts charging for texting while in the USA on cdma.
