As much as i like my desire, im going to say iphone 4.
The desires volume when it was at 2.1 was laughable, and it is now better, but still not very loud when maxed. I often have trouble hearing it in busy places and i have pretty good hearing.

I have an iPhone 4 that I am thinking of trading for an HTC Desire...and I have several members that arexwilling to trade.
My hanging point is which one has louder/clearer earpiece speaker volume. I have some real hearing loss...and although the iPhone is adequate in the volume area, it is barely so. If it were any lower it would be unusable for me.
Can anyone who has had both phones please give me a straight up comparison?

Thanks for the reply. Seems that a loud earpiece is scarce to nonexistant any more...since most manufacturers are fearful of someone throwing a lawsuit at them for "ruining their hearing" from a too-loud earpiece. That's my opinion, of course...but for them to set the level at what they deem to be acceptable is limiting severely us that have some hearing issues.
The iPhone 4 is the loudest of any iPhone to date...and I've had all of them. Guess I'll stay with Apple.
Yea. I currently have both of these phones sitting on my desk. iPhone 4 is much louder, however its easier to find the "sweet spot" on the Desire where your ear is positioned correctly to get the most volume. I find the placement of the earpiece on the iPhone makes it more difficult. So it's a bit of a toss-up for me. Because both work fine in a quiet environment. The iPhone should work better in a loud environment, but when you're in a loud place you're likely moving around, making the Desire almost just as good an option in my books. iPhone still edges it.
