Guide: How to Tether the Samsung Freeform 2

In this post i will tell you how to DUN enable your Samsung Freeform 2, how to get the mobile modem drivers for windows, and how to setup an internet proxy, all so that you may tether your phone to your computer for free internet.

Metropcs' plans all have unlimited web, this gives us a great oppurtunity! With the new Samsung Freeform 2, we are able to utilize that oppurtunity.

I will put quotations around the words or numbers you need to enter. This is only to show you specifically what to enter. PLEASE DO NOT enter the quotations, just enter what is inside the quotations!

First: Unlock your phone and press "MENU". Then press the number "9" on your keyboard.
The press the "#" symbol on your keyboard. You should come to a screen saying "User Lock".
This is where you are going to enter the numbers "587846".
After you unlock that screen you will need to hit the "#" symbol one more time.
This will bring up another screen saying "User Lock", at this screen type the numbers "8886573982".
Once that screen is unlocked you have finally come to the menu where you choose the option to get into the phone parameters.
At this menu choose the option that says "USERPREFS Editor". (NOTE: After you choose that option PLEASE BE CAREFUL not to accidentally change a parameter, beacause you might mess your phone up royally.)
Ok, so after you've chosen that option you will see a screen saying "HIDDEN_MENUS:I" with a "1" underneath the writing.
If you see this then you are in the correct place!
Now this next instruction is rediculous but it has to be done.
Hit your up button until you come to the words "DUN_CABLE_ENABLE:I". (It is a far ways up so don't think that it's not there, just keep pressing the up button until you come to it!)
Under these words you will see a "1".
Delete the "1" and in place of it put a "0". (What this does is sets the phone operating system to enable DUN which is what we need to do in order to tether our phone.)
Now after you change the number you need to make sure you hit "Ok" which is the middle button.
Without hitting "Ok" then it will not save what you have just changed.
Now hit the end button and you are done with this part.

Second: It is now time to put the software that we need onto the computer. We dont actually need the software, all we need is the drivers for the phone but we can't get the drivers without installing the software....SUCKS!
So anyway, go to http://www.samsung.com/us/support/do...SCH-R360ZKAMTR and download the .exe file on that page.
Go ahead and install it like any other program you would. (Make sure your phone is not plugged into your computer at this point.)
During installation, windows may pop up asking you if you want to install this driver (or something like that), make sure you hit yes for everyone of them!
After the software has finished installing, go ahead and restart your computer.

Third: Now that the computer has started, plug in your phone and wait for the computer to finish installing the drivers for it.
After it is done installing drivers, go to start-->control panel-->view devices and printers. (It may be different on your computer but if you find something that says "Samsung CDMA Technologies" then you're in the right place.)
Right click on "Samsung CDMA Technologies" and choose "Dial-up networking-->Create a dial-up connection".
Choose "Samsung Mobile Modem" and then enter the following credentials:
    Dial-up Phone Number: #777
User Name: [your10digitphone#]@mymetropcs.net (NOTE: Enter your ten digits without the brackets!)
    Password: mymetropcs
Name the connection whatever you want it to be named.
    Then finally hit connect.
You will now see a connection screen on your phone, most likely something you have not seen before......ooooooh aaaaah.

Lastly: Open up your internet browser and find "Internet Options". Under the "Connections" tab, choose the connection you just made and hit "Settings".
Under "Proxy Server" check "Use a proxy..." then enter "wap.metropcs.net" for the address, and "3128" for the port.
Now make sure that under "Dial-up Settings", that your username and password you entered earlier is still there.

Great Job! You did it!....hopefully. To find out if you were actually successful, try to go to a page like google. If it loads then great you're done!

    You're Welcome,
    Matt L.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure everyone understands clearly because i know it's fustrating when a tutorial doesn't tell you everything and you have to go looking for information from other places.

You can't get in trouble for it. Most phones now have the ability to tether and the phone companies know that. On an unlimited service like Metropcs, there is nothing they will do or can do because you have payed for the unlimited service which includes unlimited internet. Metropcs is actually coming out with an Android Samsung phone that they designed as a wireless hotspot, which means it was made for the intentions of tethering. So no you will not get in trouble, it doesn't matter.

It allows you to connect to the internet on your computer using your phone's internet connection. Its very useful if you are traveling and you have a laptop that you need to connect to the internet so that you may browse, check email, check news, ect... If you have an unlimited plan, which you should if you have metropcs, then it is free to do this.

Fantastic ... Gonna cancel my virgin mobile usb stick now .... There were just one or two steps you missed though ...
    1) when you click OK to "DUN_CABLE_ENABLE:I" after changing it to 0 you have to hit the end button. Iwasn't sure and didn't want to mess up anything so i kept hitting ok till I realised I was back at "DUN_CABLE_ENABLE:I" .....

    2) I had to change the settings in the Samsung Studio program to disable the Device monitoring feature of it. The setting is right there in options.

apart from those two things I'm impressed with the thoroughness of this guide .... it is truly a guide and not missing the important steps like some other guides ou there .... THANK YOU!!!

Yes, I am sorry about forgetting to tell everyone to hit end. About the Device monitoring feature though, I did not have to disable it so I never thought to put that in the guide. And thank you!
