And please excuse my ignorance-but where is this code entered? Is it entered it in Settings/Security/Change Hidden Key? Or under Settings/Security/Reset? Or a completely other place? THANKS SO MUCH!
I really appreciate your help and the unlock code! I followed your instructions and put a SIM card in from another carrier and when I turned it on all that the screen shows is a message saying "Reading SIM" and there are a series of dots flashing in a row to show that it is a work in process but the message never changes. I left it like that for 15 minutes and nothing changed. I pushed all of the buttons on the phone and none worked. Could this mean it is already unlocked? Thank you

This is not related to unlocking. It seems to be more like hw issue of phone or sim card. I suggest you try different sim card to see if it is sim card related.

    AT&T Pantech P4070 unlocking

I know this is an old thread, but I came across it and thought I'd add what I've learned. I have a 2013-vintage AT&T Go Phone Pantech P4070 sitting around that has not been used in years. I have a tween I was hoping to set it up for since it was sitting around and free but it wasn't quite so easy.

AT&T nominally requires the phone to have been in service for 6 months before it will release the phone via SIM unlock. I tried going to the local store and they were unable to do so. I found the FastGSM.com site which offered free unlock codes. I went ahead and create an account with them and requested my free unlock code. I inputted the IMEI, and within 24 hours, received an unlock code which I was able to input successfully.

In the meantime, since I had had bad experiences with free unlock codes previously, per advice of an AT&T chat representative, I also tried creating an online case via AT&T's device unlock page. To do so, however, I had to enter that I was NOT an AT&T customer (even though I am, for purposes of the dead Pantech, I was not). This allowed me to enter only the IMEI, not a phone number. Less than 48 hours later, much to my surprise, an unlock code arrived. The unlock code provided by AT&T was the same as the one provided by FastGSM - so I can confirm that the unlock code I received from FastGSM was legit.

That being said, my Pantech phone now thinks it's unlocked but is still not recognizing the Tracfone SIM I tried to install (someone gave us one with over 1000 minutes and 3 years of life on it). If I figure out how to get it to actually work with a non AT&T SIM, I'll post again. Hope this is useful to someone else - it's a nice little phone. But chained to AT&T's Go Phone service, it's a minimum $25 for normal tween text and phone usage, which is pricey vs. the alternatives.
