Was tempted to say software at first, but thinking about it, it might very well be using the same hardware trick that the 3d view uses... but I really don't know and the manual tells me .... well I can't read it yet haha.

Which sites are you talking about? You mean sites that import Japanese phones overseas?

I bought it in person at a Labi store in Shinjuku. Maybe it's sold out? I know for other phones there's such a long waiting queue, I wouldn't have been able to get the IS03 (for example) before sometime in January. Knowing that, I was surprised they had some Lynx 3D in stock at all, then again it wasn't advertised as heavily as the IS03, before it came out (now I see Lynx 3D ads everywhere).

Yeah the online Docomo shop says sold out; havent bothered asking the shops, but they are selling like hotcakes going by what friends are saying. Everyone wants to jump on the smartphone bandwagon, and this is just the type of phone they have been waiting for.

On a side-note, i finally got to see what the Regza Android phone looks like, and i am very certain that this is no longer a contender for my next phone. ******* thats a brick. Pics make it look small, but with a 4" screen and such square dimensions, it just looks.... BIG...

    So its down to SH0-03C/005SH/003SH.

Oh and maybe a wilcomm phone for free phonecalls/email. Cant beat their current campaign; 980 yen for up to 500 10 minute phone calls to any phone

Yeah, finally smartphones are having an impact in Japan. Something lots of iPhone trolls are having a hard time to accept, judging at the reactions I got on another blog when I explained how Android is able to satisfy the Japanese market where the iPhone can't (as I explained in my video)

Maybe I'm just used to my Nexus One and other such android devices, the Regza didn't feel big to me. But heck I was planning on going for the Desire HD until the price was quoted to me... 4" screen seems like the sweet spot for me, but I'm getting plenty out of the N1's 3.7" and SH-03C's 3.8".

(have you seen the Dell Streak? 5" of Android goodness LOL. If it could run one crucial app - NetExtender VPN - I'd get it, or a Tab, or another Android tablet, for work)

oh damn, that's pretty awesome deal. Then again I barely make phonecalls, my phones are more like mobile computers than phones. Sometimes someone calls me and I'm reminded that it is indeed a phone!

Yeah i mostly text too, but sometimes i just get sick of texting and want to call. Happens alot when i am drunk. And i can go through 2500yen worth of calls in a weekend easily while trying to meet up with people etc.

Was thinking of getting one of them willcom phones as a sub, just to have for phonecalls (the Honeybee toy lookalike phones are small enough to forget they are in your pocket). Depends if i can bring a Whiterom phone to them though; dont want to pay 30,000yen for a kiddy-phone!

Oh and the Regza phone, its not MASSIVE, but the square dimensions make it look much bigger than the Lynx. From the pics i was actually expecting something like a HTC Touch Diamond - that would have been awesome. But the angular lines at the size of the regza phone make it look oldfashioned in my eyes, it just 'looks big'.

So are they using sumatofuon to refer to smartphones and keitai for dumb phones now that there are some decent smartphones? And I wonder how the Japanese domestic manufactures will differentiate itself from the International market. Already they seem to be sticking to the standard square design, and I fear the flip may be coming to an end, even in Japan.
    What a long emoticon...

I doubt the flip is coming to an end... While lots of people are after a smartphone; the vast majority are still after a nice flip which they are so used to.

The same day the 003Sh was announced, Sharp also introduced some other model aimed at girls. Has flashy lights and lots of emoticons. Same price as the 003Sh... Yet i am sure that will sell just fine (though maybe not as many as the touch screen)

    COLORFUL BLINKING LIGHTS.
is the 3d just on the videos and pictures or is other stuff 3d as well? like the android parts (homescreen, etc)
and with their parallax screen doesnt that mean that its only 3d when the phone is horizontal/landscape mode, not vertical how a normal phone is held?

On the display model i saw, 3D worked both vertically and horizontally. Dont think it works at 45 degrees though (patrixl care to comment?)
And the Softbank ones had a 3D homescreen where the background image was 2D but it was 'behind' the icons that were floating on top.
Not sure how much else is 3D though. I'd LOVE to see a 3D task switcher like the Win key + tab in Vista/7!

The 3D mode when I tilted the phone sideways is a feature of the Sharp launcher on this phone, and only shows the 3D-specific apps - unlike, as tokyo_dom mentioned, the Softbank Galapagos 3d phone where there's a 3D button that makes the whole launcher into 3D.

The rest of the 3D is app-specific, on this phone. ie no 3D in the browser or android market or sp-mode email. But if I launch Earth-Defense 3D, then I'll go in 3d mode. one-seg only has 3D when in landscape mode, not portrait. 3D pics taken with the camera 3D can be viewed in portrait or landscape.

    etc...

If by 45 degrees you're talking about the viewing angle and not the phone's rotation angle.. yeah you need very specific viewing angles to see things in 3D. Annoyingly, the angle/distance required isn't always the same depending on the app or video or photo, so have to change once in a while.

Rotating the phone at any angle (portrait, landscape, anything in between), I still see the 3D effects perfectly, as long as my viewing angle and distance are correct.

This means if I'm looking at a 3D pic, the person besides me won't see it in 3D, basically.

It's still a gimmick. Only use I found for it so far is showing off when talking to girls

It's quite arguable that 3D in general is a gimmick
