uli, have you asked AT&T if they'll swap them? Explain what's going on.

Could be worse. I was in the first transition group and had 2 Tours. All I got was an Aria and a Curve. Major downgrades.
You know the Hero was Alltel's flagship phone just a few months ago.....

Thats the thing, it WAS. AT&T has promised to replace current equipment with comparable equipment. Six months ago, the Hero was the best Alltel device, and six months ago the Aria was AT&Ts top level Android handset.

And Mark, I've thought about it, but Im now well past my 30 days, and there is a possibility I may be leaving AT&T anyways. I have a very strange set of circumstances that makes phones very difficult to use in my office (I am surrounded by radiological equipment so the walls in my office are shielded very well). No phones work well in here. My Alltel phones never could hold a call, but could text and BBM without problem. My AT&T phone cant send or recieve texts thru most of my hospital. It's not really AT&T or HTC's fault, it's just the way the place is in relation to how the AT&T tower broadcasts. Verizon has a tower in my town thats not only much closer, but it's line of site to my workplace has less interference from the shielded walls that line most of my office. I am trying a small amp in the office to see if it will help things, but if it doesn't, I will probably pay the eft on the one line I have under contract and convert to the Evil Red Empire. Nothing against AT&T. Service with them has been great everywhere I go thru the area, beating Alltel's coverage hands down. It just doesn't work where I am at the most, not their fault I work in a Faraday cage.

We just received our phones about a week and a half or so ago, and 3 or 4 days later it came out that the remaining markets get the premium upgrades. I tried calling my local store about every 10 minutes for two hours straight to ask them if we could trade in my wife's Aria to get a Captivate or Torch because she previously had a Tour and they would not answer the phone. When I called customer service they acted as if they didn't know what I was talking about and asked where I got this information from and when I said I read it online (this was before they updated the preselection site) she pretty much laughed at me and said "what you read in blogs isn't always true." I am still well within the 30 day window and if it would be possible I would like to trade in my wife's Aria for the Captivate or Torch. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Nothing official from management but I was talking to a store manager that has already gone thru the transition and she said that it would be an exception process but she would probably exchange it.

    Should I upgrade with alltel????

I'm now eligible to upgrade my contract with alltel and go into at&t cheaper than their plan....The sales guys were telling me that if I buy the desire and the the Bold that the automatic replacements would be the captivate adn the torch...which are the phones we want.....Should I believe them?? or are they just trying to make a commission....I don't wanna spend two hundred dollars for phones that I don't want...Any thoughts, is at&t still doing this?? or am I gonna get screwed??

The sales guys are correct. The Bold and Desire are part of the premium tier and their free replacements include the Torch, Captivate and the new windows phone 7 models.

Since they have opened up all their phones ( except the iphone ) for free replacement does this mean that we will be able to use any phone that ATT offers in the future and not have to worry about them changing our plan?

sprke, clay explained this. If I understood correct, you get to keep your Alltel plan if you stay in the same class of device. That is, smartphone (non-iPhone/BlackBerry) to smartphone (non-iPhone/BlackBerry), BlackBerry to BlackBerry, feature phone to feature phone.

I know he said that..but before these premium phones were released you couldn't go from Desire to Captivate which is in the same device class and you couldn't go from Bold to Torch which is also blackberry to blackberry. Will I be able to go from my Desire to the upcoming Moto Olympus? Its the same device class...but somehow I doubt we will be able to. I don't really expect Clay or anybody else to know all these answers there's a lot of variables and we probably won't really know until we try it

That right there is great news. Our greatest asset as Alltel customers is the Alltel plans.

sprke, clay answered that pretty clearly... new plan to upgrade to those devices ONLY as part of preselect, keep your plan if upgrading later.
