    Contact Matching

I'm a little confused by this "feature" where it matches contacts from my contacts list on Gmail with Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Often it's bringing in older information than in my actual address book and cluttering it up.

Is there a way to disable that feature?

Go into facebook's settings and disable contact sync. Theres often tons of fb friends that you dont necessarily want in your address book. Just disable that feature and your worries will be gone. I like it however, it adds peoples pictures to the numbers instead of me going around taking pictures of hundreds of my contacts to have them saved in my memory card as well.

I think he may be referring to Gmail contacts. I've had a Gmail account for 7 years so I've got literally thousands of email address in there that I don't ever use. And when I set up my Google account the phone sync'd like 1013 contacts from Gmail. Plus I finally imported my Outlook contacts which had all my phone numbers and that I have used for years to sync with other phones (I couldn't figure out how to sync the myTouch 4G with my PC...another story) so I had to merge those within Gmail---some via the "Find and merge" feature and some I had to do manually. For the most part they were all imported easily and went into a Gmail contacts list called "My Contacts". I also have several other lists that I use in Gmail as well as a bunch of miscellaneous old email addresses that it called "Other Contacts". I don't think you can control which lists are sync'd with the phone but you can control which ones show up in the Contacts app by using the filter described above...just click on the arrow to the left of the Gmail name in that list and you can uncheck those contact groups you don't want.
