    Mr Mystery,

Will it really cover your ECF and DECF fees? It's going to come to $400 for voice plus $100 for data equalling $565 plus a months service regardless of when you cancel. Quite possibly taking you to a total of about $600 or even more.

After market price of a 32gb Iphone 4 would be hovering around $550 .. therefore putting you at a loss. A bigger loss if its a 16 gb Iphone. Besides not being able to unlock it before the three years, why don't you post your issue here and we can all try to take a dig at it? Surely for the unlocking you can get an altogether cheaper option.

^You'd be surprised, I just sold 3 different iPhone 4 16GB models. 2 Rogers locked (one was HUP few months back and another recent HUP), along with an unlocked one from Apple. I got 650,600 and 550 for the 3 of them (all 16GB). I ported both numbers out the other day, and am getting a bill with $1045 (tax in) of ECF/DECF & $211 (tax in) for an iPhone 4 HUP. The two rogers locked iPhone 4 sales comes very close to covering ECF/DECFs for both lines and the $211 HUP charge.

If they were in my area, it would be a serious consideration for me. Only the lack of the iPhone might keep me away, but saving a few hundred dollars might ease the pain.

Losing the iPhone does kind of hurt. On Sunday when I was porting I had my iPhone on rogers, and an HD7 on Wind. Right as I got a txt on the HD7 saying my number port had been complete, the iPhone went from Rogers 3G to No Service. RIP. Only hope now is some AWS action for the next iPhone.

Has anyone tried to unlock their iphone by first "buying out" the contract and keeping the line active by going month to month with no subsidy?

Edit: On the phone with Rogers to find out if this is possible. The call center wait times is nuts right now

^Other than waiting it out, that is the only way they say they will allow you to unlock a subsidized phone.

Just got off the phone with Rogers. Retentions informed me it is not possible to unlock the handset by buying out the contract followed by going month to month. Once the ECF/DECF occurs, my account will be no longer active and not eligible to have the handset unlocked. They also told me it is not possible to use a different account to unlock the handset and that it will be locked forever.

I'm not sure if the rep was incredibly incompetent or if this is actually the case. Has anyone successfully unlocked a subsidized handset by paying the ECF/DECF and keeping the account active? I'm in a similar situation to Mr Mystery in that I'm looking to port my number to Wind but want my iphone 4 unlocked.

I did the same recently.. was looking for a way to unlock the iPhone or keep the line active after porting but it's not possible. Easiest thing is to port and sell the iPhone to cover the ECF/DECF.

I have an iPhone 3GS that my cousin purchased when it was released. The screen shattered and Rogers replaced it with an iPhone 4 (or something like that). I acquired the iPhone from the cousin today, and I am now unlocking it using a prepaid account that I have hanging around. After two agents fumbled around with transfers, I was cold transfered to an unprepared unlocking agent who then took all my information again, and brought me through the entire process including the iTunes work. Overall, 90 minutes from getting the iPhone to having it unlocked on SaskTel.

My only concern is that I pay tax when I added the $50 to my pay-as-you go card. Then I pay taxes again on the unlocking service. So. A total cost of $60.

That's right. That gotta be wrong. Is it even legal? Although it's not a lot of money, it's worth escalating.

I bet the agent just made it up, one of many excuses and fantasies I've heard in the past few days while trying to unlock a 3GS purchased from Apple Store.

I scanned through the entire page again and I'm trying to figure out how these dudes are unlocking their subsidized IP4s.

    I found this ...

"for anyone who are having trouble with going through the unlocking department, just tell the guy/girl to transfer you to extension #930. Half of the guys dont even know what theyre doing and they just send you off to a random place. Had to spend 30min getting to the unlocking department. "

    http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/iphone-...hone-included/

I call in "again" tonight and asked to be transferred over to dept 930, finds out it's customer relations. I asked the first CSR "why is it this dept and isn't supposed to be the unlocking dept?" Apparently, only customer relations dept can do the unlocking.

Now over at customer relations, I asked if I can get the unlock and my buddy from Vancouver got it done (with a subsidized IP4). He confirms that's impossible, the system will not allow it. The only way of unlocking the IP4, if subsidized price is paid off. He says it's going to cost $500.00 and once I agree to pay that, he can access the next step of unlocking the IP4. He also told me; my contract will still be running, since I assigned for the EPP & 6GB plan a few months ago and going through the ECF / DECF method will shutdown my account completely without access of unlocking in the future.

Well, I tried "again" and doesn't seem like there's anyway we can do this without paying the $500.00 pricetag.

If anyone is successful with unlocking their subsidized IP4, please post it up and share it with all of us.
