wifi w/o verizon service?

If I drop verizon service on incredible, can I continue to use wifi feature? Verizon rep told me no. Is he lying? I am fed up witrh short battery life and expensive service plan after 3 months of use. I am reverting back to talk/text plan. I am ressurecting an old phone. Incredible is going up for sale. john

You can use the Incredible as a WiFi only device.

But you have to pay for data service anyhow don't you? I am on the $15-150MB/month. Don't think you can get or keep an Incredible without it. True? I do shut off internet most of the time and use wifi most of the time.

Bob I was told by a Verizon woman that I can activate an old talk/text phone online thru my acct. All the forum replies say I can use WiFi w/o keeping my incredible activated. l will find out soon. BTW bob I wonder if phone will continue to operate as a Google phone over the internet.

i have two incredibles (its a long story)... but anyway, one is on the network, and one is used only through wifi.

so yes you can use it only on wifi, but i think some apps will not work and a few other things.

dont know about the google phone app, but i am pretty sure because ive heard people talking about doing that.

Yes but you are going to need to use a VoIP service such as Skype, which is good and bad. Many calls are free, calls routed through an ISDN or PSTN are not though.

It could be that the Verizon rep was referring to the free WIFI service that Verizon offers to its broadband customers via some restaurants, coffee shops, etc. I have the Verizon Incredible 2 running on the PPC network and standard WIFI works fine.
