Verified to work on factory unlocked iPhone 4S (NOT jailbroken).

I had an inactive T-mobile regular (not prepaid) SIM card from 5+ years ago. Bought the AT&T version of iPhone 4S at Apple Store "off contract" as "device only" at USA store (for full retail $649). Followed the exact instructions below and now MMS works even after 2 reboots

Factory unlocked iPhone 4 8GB (no jailbreak)
    iOS 5
    Straight Talk SIM
T-mobile deactivated prepaid SIM (phone pops ups with a voice mail notification when SIM is inserted)

So I basically popped out the ST SIM, inserted the T-mobile deactivated SIM. The data configuration menu appears in Settings -> General -> Network. While in this menu, pop out the T-mobile SIM, insert the ST SIM. Then enter the configuration info from the 1st page of this thread for ST. Double check the configuration, then back out the configuration screen.

    MMS works!
Tried power off and then back on and MMS sending still works!

I also tried inserting the same T-mobile SIM in my locked 3GS running iOS 5. The data configuration menu did not appear. So I guess anyone wanting data and MMS working without jailbreaking will need a factory unlocked iPhone.

@hoxbox: Do you think this method would also work on a "locked" AT&T iPhone 4S? I bought my i4s online from a guy that preordered it with AT&T. I have it up and running on ST but not sure MMS works. I came from a i4 and did a backup before switching over to i4s.

I don't think it'll work with "locked" version of 4S because the only reason we are able to get to the Network settings is because T-Mobile allows the network settings to be accessed on an unlocked phone. Also per Success2b it didn't work on the locked 3GS. Guessing locked 4S may have to wait for jailbreak to access MMS...

Do you need to set up a new phone number when activating the straight talk phone or can you transfer your phone number from another cell to the straight talk phone?

Iphone 4 4.3.5 up and working on ST. If I want to upgrade to ios5 through itunes,1) do i need to remove sim card to do this? 2) Will I have to go through the initial setup (change APN) again? Thanks in advance.

Has anyone done this yet with an iPhone 4s ? I would think things would be the same as for an iPhone 4 but thought I would check before picking one up for the wife. Any known issues with iOS 5 and this type of configuration?

    Thx

@jackpine: I have an iPhone 4S running on ST and followed the How To found on page 1. HOWEVER, from what I've read and learned you must buy the iPhone 4S at an Apple Store as DEVICE ONLY ($600+) because it will be unlocked when you activate it through iTunes! You then pop in a T-Mobile sim (service NOT required!) which will bring up the APN Settings option to configure for ST. You can then pop back-in the ST sim into the iPhone 4S and hopefully MMS will work :-)

I got my iPhone 4S from a guy online who preordered it thru AT&T. It came "locked" to the service so I have to wait for a JB to become available to get MMS working. Other than that, calls, texts, and internet work just like it did on my iPhone 4.

And in my opinion, save yourself the extra cash and just get a iPhone 4. Besides the 8MP camera, 1080p video recording, and Siri, the iPhone 4 is still a very nice "old" iPhone to get and already JB!

    Hi guys,
So here is the problem, I already got the E71 with a "P" sim card ... I put it in my 3gs 5.0 ! everything is perfect. I didn't do the mms settings because I don't use them So I have the 3g and the edge icons all my push notifications are working properly, but I think I have big problems with the speed ....always when I am in 3g mode and try to make a speed test it connects me to Wichita, KS server...I am in Richmond, VA ...I think there is some misunderstanding...I have all 5 bars of reception but it is very slow ....

    Connection Type: Cellular
    Server: Wichita, KS

Its because Straight Talk data runs through an AT&T datacenter in Chicago, IL. So it picks a closer test site.

That test above is on 3G or EDGE?
