You bring up a great question, and I hope someone who has done this can answer. I, as well as lots of others would love to sell or give away our E71s if the BYOD sim will work.
BTW, FWIW, I just upgraded my Iphone which was jailbroken and at iOS 4.1 to 5.0.1 following the instructions as noted here: http://www.iphonehacks.com/2011/12/h...g-redsn0w.html. It took a very long time to do the upgrade, but it worked. I had no MMS and I tried using http://unlockit.co.nz to accomplish this, but it did not work and I recommend no one try it - it simply doesn't work most of the time. I then re-installed TetherMe and followed the instructions in the Wiki (see first page, first post) and bingo, all is well with MMS again. I also had no wifi at first, which was easy to fix (had to reset networks - I found the instructions by googling). 5.0.1 was well worth the effort since it allows me to install apps that won't work with older versions of firmware. Hope this helps others take the plunge that are still at old versions.
Black our or remove the Nokia`s S/N so the new owner cannot order a free replacement SIM and thus de-activate yours (they do not need the S/N with the buy-a-sim). Keep a record of the S/N so you can order a free replacement SIM if ever needed (you do not need the Nokia to activate the replacement SIM).

That won't work as the serial number can still be read by dialing *#06#. If you transfer your number to a BYOD SIM you can sell your E71 without having to worry that the buyer will use the phone's imei to obtain a sim and kill your service. Seems like it's worth the $15.

Yes, i forgot about the parameters or menues. Would have to set up a friend or family member with the Nokia so as to have control.
This goes beyond the initial $15. What can you get for the Nokia, how many $15 SIM`s might you have a need to replace.
Finally have doin this jailbreak and tetherme 15 millions times. It finally worked tonight. Thank all of you for your help.... Oh course I did buy the straight talk sim card and waiting for it to arrive. at lease it will work now.
hey guys.. having a major issue.. I have been on straight talk for over a year.. I did the nokia e71 sim swap and been on my iphone 4... I now have the 4s.. well ever since last week when I took the sim card out and put it back in, my internet doesnt work all the time.. I even reset the phone.. I have to reboot the phone 10 times a day for the internet to work... any idea why>? I was using the old unlockit zip file but deleted it yesterday and now use the tether me set up.. the only part which is confusing is this site says 2 diff settings for the mms.. which one is correct for a jailbroken iphone 4s on att??

MMS Proxy: proxy.mvno.tracfone.com:80
OR
MMS Proxy 66.209.11.33:80
OR
MMS Proxy 66.209.11.33 WITHOUT THE (:80)
It really shouldn't matter, they are all equivalent. 66.209.11.33 is the IP address of proxy.mvno.tracfone.com. The 80 is the port number but 80 is the default port so it doesn't have to be explicitly set. However I'd use 66.209.11.33:80 as it eliminates the need for a DNS lookup so it should work even if the DNS server is down. Explicitly setting the port shouldn't be necessary but it can't hurt.

I too am having internet issues where the issue will just stop working. I think ATT's tightened their grip on ST with the allowing of the BYOD. One thing to note is that the MMS proxy setting has NOTHING to do with the actual internet on the phone. When you're using your web browser or apps that use internet it's using your Internet APN, not your MMS Proxy
Changed the APN and everything and I still get no service
What 'bout' it? ;-)
You know, if you're not intelligent enough to spell BOUGHT instead of BOUT, maybe you didn't follow directions right? Sorry, that was mean. But seriously, this isn't an underground thing anymore, you CAN call ST and ask for help troubleshooting.

No need to be so harsh
Yeah, I know but I figured someone here would know better
