My JB iPhone 4 is plenty snappy. I don't have siri but I have pdanet, 3g unrestrictor, activator, ad blocker, androidlock, barrel, fullscreen for safari, sms+, and weather icon. It probably not the jailbreak, it is probably a specific app (or combination of apps) that is causing your lag. You might try unistalling siri and seeing if that fixes it (since that's a cydia app you both have).

Question, I did the E71 swap months ago, but I hate having to jailbreak for MMS every time so I can get the firmware update. If I just buy the sim card from Straight Talk will that eliminate the need to jailbreak for MMS function?

The need to jailbreak is due to a limitation Apple imposes on APN editing when it detects an AT&T SIM card. The fault lies with Apple and they're who you need to complain to. If enough people do this, they may eventually fix it.

So I would have to jailbreak for MMS to work regardless of which method I use?

There are a couple of different workarounds to set the proper APNs. Jailbreaking and installing TetherMe just happens to be probably the most straightforward.

The requirement to change the APN actually has nothing to do with the SIM card - it has to do with the way AT&T provides service to MVNOs, like Straight Talk. This is why it's something Apple should fix, because there's no reason it should require hacking or workarounds just to use an iPhone on a prepaid carrier.

Tried the siriport over the last 2 days and while I wasn't ever able to get it to activate I can report that it caused noticeable lag. Also most of my apps decided to stop working. Thankfully it returned to normal after removing the siriport. I didn't have that problem with spire (though that, likewise, never worked for me).

Question for you guys, I've just noticed there is a 5.1.1 update coming from software update. My Mom has an 4S that is unlocked from apple. I set it up on straight talk for her and used the SIM card from my Sprint iPhone to get to the APN menu to adjust the settings for data and get the MMS working. Everything is working great for her, she's not jailbroken, running completely stock. But we live about 3 hours away from each other. So I want to know if I can tell her to do the update or not. Would it clear the APN info and require it to be set up again? If so I'll have her wait until the next time I am around, if anyone here has a similar set up and had luck with it, I may let her give it a go. Thoughts?

Oh and Eddy120876 My mom's 4S gets the Faux-G type speeds. She didn't have full bars here at my house and was still pulling down 5mbps down and 2.5up. on speed test

Google it. I see two solutions: Redsn0w and easyra1n. First one is free, second one you pay.

Anyone selling a jailbreak solution is a scammer. What you need to realize is PayPal's buyer protection only applies to physical, shipped goods. What happens is: You buy this crap and they send you the same copy of redsn0w you could've downloaded for free. Then, when you ask for your money back, PayPal responds with a form letter explaining they only cover physical goods and that you're out of luck (and your money).
