Thanks guys. I have a hard one for everyone to try to figure. I am using a Att mircocell. Tower
At home will this work with the iPhone using ST .? The mircocell tower
Creates a small mini cell tower for your home. But I am not for sure if Att has to
Activate it or what. I no longer have the Att service.
Last I checked, in order to use the MicroCell it has to be linked to a postpaid at&t Mobility account.
After that, it should work on any at&t-based number including MVNOs like ST.

I have Two iPhone 3GS phones one has 4.1 os and the other 4.01 which can still be jail broke at jailbreak me.com. I tried my 4.1 and jailbreak me.com would not work. I have read the threads but am still unsure will the E71 sim works in both if those phones or will I have to jailbreak them. .?
Thanks
Bubba
If either one is jailbroken, restore it, then upgrade it to 4.2.1 then follow the steps on the first post. You only need to jailbreak if you want mms.
iPhone 4 running on StraightTalk Wireless 3G (AT&T MVNO)
Hi, firstly I lost my old username/pw etc. to hofo cos its been some years since I got back into the "cellular hobby" hehe. Anyways, I just got an Iphone 3gs and I am currently using it on H2OWireless (also a att mvno). Thinking about switching to ST for unlimited data but wow that E71 is kinda expensive imho to be just bought for the sim...
Now my question is, can I just unlock the E71 and sell it? I ask because I read somewhere on here that its pretty much useless without the ST sim which is kinda odd cos its a GSM type....

This really needs to be stickied on here somewhere: Straight Talk uses the IMEI, not the SIM number to activate and manage any changes to your service. If you sell the phone, the new owner can ask customer service for a new SIM card and you'll be left with a deactivated, useless SIM card.
You have to buy an E71.
You have to keep it for as long as you use the service.
There is absolutely no way around this.
This is just the way Straight Talk works.

So if you are using the E71 ST SIM in the Iphone, and it is time for the monthly renewal and you are on the auto-refill plan, would that mean I would have to put the SIM back into the E71 for it to renew or will it renew OK if left in the Iphone? If ST uses only the IMEI then I would think you couldn't renew without putting the SIM back into the E71. Thanks.

As long as your service is active, you won't need to provide the IMEI. If your service lapses, gets cut off or your SIM develops a problem (or you later decide to port in and need a replacement SIM), you'll need to provide Straight Talk with the IMEI of your E71 for customer service to be able to help you. Just the SIM by itself would be completely useless, as it has to be associated with an IMEI in Straight Talk's database.
Whether or not the SIM is actually being used in the E71 does not seem to make a difference, so far.
gotanmp3 is correct! You have to trow the E71 in your drawr and forget about it! Do not sell it, or put another sim card in it. If the $200 for the phone/sim is too much for you to spend, stick with H2O.
techniqually your right, if you were able to unlock the e71 and say sell it to a att user, he could just use it on att and not on straight talk, but ive heard its basically impossiable to unlock them...

The problem, though, is that if someone has your IMEI, they could call Straight Talk and claim their kid got ahold of the phone, removed the SIM and fed it to the dog and Straight Talk will send them a new SIM card. So, even if you could get the phone unlocked, the IMEI itself is a security risk.
Guys there should be no problem unlocking the E71, since it doesn't have the Amerika Movil proprietary software on it. That is why this phone can only be used with the $45 monthly unlimited plan. The phone is simply carrier locked when activated. Simply go to a reputable unlocking website, give your IMEI, pay the $$, wait, get the code, follow the instructions carefully. Wha'la unlocked. Simple as that. Unfortunately this doesn't work for the Compal phones with proprietary software loaded.
