Yeah, it was the the CommCenter Patch install wasn't working but following the instructions here http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost...87&postcount=1 got that fixed, after that it only took a minute to install the ipcc file.

So I've learned here that you can only use Nokia e71 (or the other Nokia smartphone from ST) for the sim to work subsequently on iPhone.

ASSUMPTION: Assuming that all sim cards from ST are the same, but the reason why transferring it to iPhone only works if you activate it in those 2 Nokias, are because they are smartphones and ST system recognizes that therefore validates the sim to work on a smartphone (vs regular flip phone).

PROPOSAL: To save money, is it possible to...
Buy a cheaper ST phone (GSM of course) just to get the sim card, activate sim using a friend's Nokia e71 from ST, and transfer sim to iPhone???

    Just thinking...

Won't work. Phone and SIM card are linked together when activated, therefore each phone sold can only have one SIM card active at a time associated with it.

The only way to do it is to buy a e71 or 6790, activate it, put the SIM in the phone of your choice, and leave the e71 or 6790 to collect dust in a drawer somewhere. The $200 is the cost of the deal, but in most cases that cost will be made up in a matter of months if you can get away from a contract carrier / plan.

Your assumption is wrong. The Nokia SIM cards are unlocked. All other SIM cards are locked. They even have different part numbers.

Your proposial is wrong. ST will ask where the SIM came from. If they do activate the combo his SIM will be deactivated and he will have no service until he receives a replacement SIM and then your SIM will be deactivated. Each time a SIM card deactivates the remainder of the 30 day airtime card is lost forever, no refunds. You make changes between the end of one cards and the beginning of the next.

You cannot get rid of the Nokia for several reasons.
As you may now realize, asking questions is the best way to avoid costly and time consuming mistakes.

Got the nokia e71 thru ebay, when I first tried to activate it via the web it said it was used before or that is currently activated. So I called ST and told them I bought it from a friend, so she said I will have to use the old # first to activate and then I can go ahead and apply for a new one. So we did the activation process, mind you she forgot to ask me now would you like a new local #.

First of all, I bought it not from a friend lol, it came from FL and im in NY. The old # started with a 813, she gave me a 941 (next town over the 813 according to google), my text and calls were working fine but no internet on the nokia. So I was on the phone with a tech support lady for over an hour and all she was telling me to do, turn it off, turn it back on, try web again. I kept getting Packet Data! No Connection Available. I got tired of hearing the samething I hung up, popped out the sim card, put it thru the sim cutter, popped it in the iphone and boom. Text/Calls working too, then got on wifi followed the instructions 3G Internet worked too. So all I need now is the MMS.

Steps I took was restore my iphone4 with 4.3.2 with redsn0w (jailbreak) then unlock it, then installed all my apps then popped in the sim card from ST. I'm currently enjoying 5.9mbps down / 1.49mbps up from speedtest with a Florida # in New York, not sure if I get a local # will help me though.

straight talk - Atrix - confusion- to unlock or not unlocked that is the question

    Hello. Can somebody please HELP!!!

    Details-
    1) I purchased a unlocked Motorola Atrix phone. Although it is not working completely. I am unfamiliar and a newbie with Android phones.
    2) I have Straight Talk as my carrier. I do have the E71 and the SIM card that came with it does have the "P" on it so thats good.
    3) I can make and receive calls and get plain text messages BUT I have no internet or MMS.

I was following the original post. However, I am a bit road blocked since the majority of the thread and suggestions are related to the iphone. When I went to Cydia again they mostly refer to iphone.

    Wondering-
    1) should I be installing an app for cydia?
    2) has anybody done the Atrix - Straight Talk change?
    3) what should I be doing to gain internet access?

Thank You so much in advance!
