I tried a full firmware reset and factory reset but it still wouldn't work. Only when I unlocked it with ultrasnow did it recognize 'HOME' (StraightTalk). I also had to use the mobile config file in the first post to get 3G internet to work.

It was locked to Rogers or another Canadian or possibly European carrier.

GSM Canadian carriers should work if the phone is unlocked. If it's not you should get an 'unrecognized SIM' message. Plus he said 3G data was working.

Okay maybe I am an idiot but, if I bought the phone from a friend and know that it was activated at one time do I need to do any further steps(besides the ones alredy posted) to get an iPhone to work with a ST sim card?

Iam going through it now it's been one week and they said its been fixed so tomorrow I'll find out if they fixed it

Sorry, The only way to downgrade to 4.2.1 is to backup your "shsh blobs" with TinyUmbrella. Otherwise Apple won't let you downgrade. It's no big deal if you don't care about jailbreaking or unlocking. If you have an AT&T locked iPhone with an AT&T MVNO SIM that runs on the AT&T network, the phone should just run just fine without unlocking. I have Pure Talk USA SIM which uses the AT&T network and my old iPhone 3G runs just fine without unlocking.

New iOS versions may be a battery drain, so just bring a spare charger with you and also in your car to top off when ever you get the chance.

Unlocking isn't needed at all for ST if on an ATT iphone. However, jailbreaking is necessary for MMS.

I just bought an iPhone 3G from craigslist and I was not able to get my SIM card to work without unlocking it. Anyone else have this problem? My SIM card says TF64PSIMC4 on it. I am worried that the SIM card won't work when I decide to upgrade my phone to another AT&T phone. Any ideas?

One more thing I wanted to add. You can put the SIM into any ATT phone and see if you have the ability to call and text.....even a cheap one(a gophone may not work, use an old contract phone). Maybe a friend has an old one laying around? If it works, then you know the SIM will work for whatever ATT phone you switch to, as long as you can change the apn info. Android phones are pretty good for this, they don't require rooting for it to work.

Iphones are good, but if you accidentally upgrade the iOS without a working jailbreak available it could mess you up. There are ways to revert back, but you need to save the SHSH blobs that the last poster was talking about. Make sure you check into that when going the iPhone route.

Okay, I ordered my e71 last week on Walmart.com for $169.00 (the local store didn't have it, and it was free shipping site to store), and it came in yesterday. Here is my SIM card #:

1.) Will this work with the iPhone 3GS?


I purchased an iPhone 3GS 32g last week as well from a friend. He wiped it clean. I now of course need to sync it before I can use it, but I am afraid it will automatically update the OS to make it non-compatible, or just slow.

2.)What is the best OS for the 3GS, and how can I get it on mine?

3.) Can I sell the e71 on eBay after getting the SIM card out of it??

1) Yes you can use it with an iPhone 3GS
2) I'm not sure about the best iOS, But I have had Straight Talk running on 4.1 through 4.3.3
As far as I know you dont have to upgrade iOS to sync with iTunes.
3) You can NOT sell the e71 on ebay. The sim card is married to the e71. If you sale it and the person that gets it activates it your sim will be cut off.

Hey all.

Newbie here. I have an iphone 3gs. No more contract with AT&T (thank god). My sister just gave me a e71 which walmart told me I could get a sim card for to use on ST. My iphone has 4.3.4 running. Any headaches I should know about before I get the sim?

So you bought an used E71 and Straight Talk sent you a new sim correct? Yes, it should work.

What happened to the original SIM? Any chance your sister is using it in another phone? There could be complications there.
