What about "downgrading"? Is that a viable option for any future phone w/ a iOS that doesn't have an untethered jailbreak available?

Might be too late then. From what I hear, iOS 4.3 isnt going to be easy to jailbreak. Might want to get one now while we are still on 4.2.1 and still have a untethered jailbreak available.

If that phones SHSH is saved on cydia, then yes, but you have no guarantee that it will be.
Apple blocked downgrading starting with the 3GS by requiring a signed hash "SHSH" before the phone will allow an iOS restore to take place. You can save/backup your SHSH, but Apple won't be providing them for 4.2.1 once 4.3 is released. In other words, the iPhone you own TODAY can have its SHSH backed up and always be able to restore to 4.2.1, but the iPhone you buy tomorrow can only have its SHSH backed up while Apple still offers it...
Thanks for clearing that up. Makes sense. This is the most I've ever tried to learn about phones in general. The lengths I will go to keep my iPhone and get cheap service!
It is worth it though! If people are responsible with their data usage, I dont see ST cutting us off anytime soon. Plus Im sure Walmart (being the greedy pricks they are) have a iron clad contract with ST/Net10 limiting their actions against disconnecting us and loosing money for both of them.
Seems the e71 is not on walmart.com anymore, went from out of stock, to not available at this time. Some stores might still have the models in stock.
Website doesnt have it all the time, their stores still carry it.
i can't get the mms to work, and i have input the settings, is there anything else? BTW the service is great and all seems to work fine but the mms. Thx MrRomeo![]()
I managed to snag an iPhone 3GS 32GB in good condition for a mere $300. Not to mention my super tech-savvy friend spent a whole 4 hours unlocking and jailbreaking it (not sure why it took so long, I think he was having issues with the baseband) free of charge. I'm currently using it on T-Mobile pay as you go but as soon as I'm financially secure enough I am definitely going to Straight Talk. I thank all of you again for contributing to such a fantastic forum. Out of all my hobby based forums I've been on, this one easily beats every one of them in terms of contributions and member quality.
One question, is Walmart's return policy 90 days like usual on Straight Talk phones? I was thinking if I wanted to have the option to leave Straight Talk without having to keep the E71 I could buy an E71, return it right before the 90 days is up, buy another one, and repeat. It would be a bit of a hassle to reactivate the phone each time and the 3rd month of service would get cut a bit short each cycle, but I have the feeling it might be worthwhile to have the option to return it.
A bit harsh, eh? Well, yeah, it is a questionable idea. In fact, I apologize. It wasn't something I was seriously planning on doing. Upon further consideration I have realized that it wouldn't be worth all of the time and risk to keep returning and repurchasing phones. If I was really through with ST, I could just be responsible and sell the E71 eBay. I'm sure people have been doing things like this for a long time, but it doesn't make it any more acceptable.
So, please forgive and be gentle, as I am new to jailbreaking and such. My 3g freezes with redsnow at waiting to reboot. I saw that you posted to do it in xp compatibility mode but in Windows 7 home premium, windows won't let me download compatibility mode without paying to upgrade my operating system. I may just be super confused on this. Sorry again if this is a stupid question, but I completely appreciate this forum and all the help you have given and can give me in the future!!![]()
