Hotspot is firmware related, there's no reason you wouldn't be able to.
I just upgraded my 3G to the 4, upgraded the 4 to 4.3. My understanding is that I should see Hotspot in Settings > General > Network, but there is no Hotspot setting there.
Mann so bummed please help. I follwed the directions correctly they are so simple I figured it was too good to be true lol I got service on my nokia e71 I can make calls from it and everything. I pit it in my iPhone and I get one bar no HOME service display and rebooting does not help. I'm thinking the only thing that I could have done wrong was cut the sim wrong. I used a template online but it doubt thats it because when I put the sim in it goes from no sim to the one bar but nothing works amd it never gets more than the one. please please help I want this so bad
Get one of the microsim adapters and put the sim back in the E71, if it works, then it's probably not the way you cut the sim, if it doesn't work, then you will know you probably cut the sim wrong.
I would also move to an area with better coverage, I once messed with an iPhone for 2 days because of only one bar on it where as my other iPhone had 3 bars, only to find out it just did not have as good as reception as the other. I literally moved from inside my house to outside and it worked. I felt pretty stupid because I had tried everything including partial disassembly of the iPhone to try to see what was wrong.
I've been outside downstairs room to room. and the sim I cut works fine in the nokia I just have to place it right could it be that it's not being placed right in the iPhone?? even if it changes from no sim to one bar which it gives me the same thing with my att microsim that it came with. and how would I get a new sim if they are married to the phones?
should I try and say I lost my sim or lock it so it can't be used anymore?? it looked so simple online I don't think it's the placement of the sim because the phone recognizes it it just doesn't give me service
I ported my tmobile number to straight talk(10 minutes to port a number wow)...got a 3gs running, 3g and talk and text working perfect. Mms also working...I bought a 6790 from walmart. Only thing that sucks is Im in Denver and speedtest shows my speed at 350 k down and 40 k up ....wish the speeds were better, I will try later from different location and see if speeds change...But I guess I can't complain much for $45 a month LOL
so I called and they said they will ship me a new sim. gonna have to change my number but honestly I don't care what happens if this all works. I also bought a sim cutter Romeo lol after spending 700 on the iPhone 250 for the nokia and plan 7 bucks seems like the last thing I want to skimp on to make this thing work.

Have you ever used that iphone? Or is this the first time you have tried an active sim in it?
In that case I would definitely find someone with an active microsim and test it to make sure it functions properly. Just based on everything you said I suspect there may be something wrong with the phone. I hope not but rather than going through all the trouble of getting another sim and cutting it, find a way to test it. Maybe visit an Att store and see if they will let you use one of their sims to check the phone.
well as bad as that sounds it would explain all this because it looks like everyone is having a great outcome of the procedure. will go to att tomorrow and find oit seeing as I don't know anyone with an iP4 and believe me I want to ask every stranger I see with one to try it but I just can't see them understanding lol or be willing
Stayyyflyyy, don't know if this will help but I have a 3GS and had the same problem as you. One bar no service. I jumped the gun and jailbroke the phone and followed the other steps as well the night before I purchased Ss phone. Activated the Ss phone, swapped sims (one bar, no service) . I restored the iPhone, inserted sim, it immediately activated,
then followed all steps and jailbroke only after the phone activated. Hope this helps, it worked for me....
