    Yes.
It seems those that are using over 2GB a month are getting phone calls. Not only is it against the TOS they can also tell by how fast your consuming the data. An iPhone or Android device will use data at a much faster pace than the Nokia devices.

Most service providers do...even when they say unlimited. The amount is debatable I guess. Some people say 2 GB, some say 5 GB. Through normal usage you aren't likely to have any issues. The people who get cut off or throttled are usually steaming netflix constantly or are tethering their laptops constantly. Even then many of them have been able to get the internet turned back on. I've been using my phone since December with no issue.

My bad....lol. We occasionally get people that are very negative about the whole deal. Sometimes wonder if they are Straight Talk employees or something.

You can try to get a used ST Nokia on EBay and call ST to get a new SIM or something, but the best way is to just buy a new one.

The Straight Talk SIM should allow you to make calls without even doing anything on an iPhone. Only data and MMS require config files and jailbreak. Either there was something wrong with the SIM card or iPhone or you weren't using a SIM from the E71 or 6790. Those are the only SIMs that work for this.

Edit: Agreed. Of course netflix and Pandora might increase the usage. Neither of which I do that much. I do tether, but usually only if I need to type out a long e-mail or something.

    Bought a T-mob Iphone 4 in Germany .. it is on 4.3.3 base 4.10.01
finally got it working a couple of days ago.. with a turbo sim to unlock
the phone I had already JB so for so good.. running like a champ.. Better signal
than with my E71... Ofcourse have to live with Edge,, instead of 3G... but still worth it... Iphone is running strong.... I use it with WiFi anyway.. but Internet,MMS, Txt, and voice working as they should so far........ I would guess that Edge is here to stay,, no changing that... but doesnt seem to be all that different from 3G.. any one have anyother sugg.. about improving .. I am all ears.............

Inforation on the Straight Talk Data Usage Cap

I have been following and posting on a discussion thread on the Staight Talk Official Facebook site. It has been dealing with the "unofficial data cap" straight talk have been placing on their user with out telling them what the cap is and they have recently been blacklisting the phones of costumers going over the cap without even a warning call. Which means you could even sell it to someone else for them to activate. You basically have a $200 brick. They have also deleted the thread three times now but people keep posting about it. I guess it is happening to more and more people. Below is a summary of the discussion.

The discussion came about by several Straight Talk customers getting "warning calls" from ST costumer service telling them that they were using too much data. Accused them of tethering without actual proof and pretty much gave them the anal probe treatment asking a bunch of invasive questions about their data usage.

So then the question became that ST advertises unlimited data so why were people getting these calls. It turned out that the ST unlimited plan is not so unlimited. After hearing from some people, on this discussion board and a few others, who got the harassing calls and/or had their service shut off, we were able to determine a few things about the data side of the plan. First, the cap/flag in the ST system for data usage is 2GB. But they also flag your account for rate of daily usage as well.

The $45 plan card that you buy at Walmart and the Terms of Service (ToS) were both written before ST started offering smart phones. They technically say unlimited mobile web and in another place in the ToS unlimited mobile web browsing, if I remember correctly. I suppose that would be technically accurate. Because I do not believe a person could ever reach 2GB of data by just simply browsing the web with a mobile web browser even on a Smartphone. And before smart phones that is pretty much all the web (data) related stuff ST phones would do except maybe downloading ringtones and send/receive MMS messages. So before the smart phones you never heard of someone using their ST phone and hitting a data cap. But now the Smartphones can download apps and OS updates from the ovi app store, stream audio and video as well as browse the web and download ring tones. Not to mention the built in GPS navigation, the app available in the ovi app store that enable your E71 as a mobile hotspot, and the last OS update was over 600MB. People were getting called just for trying to update the Operation System (OS) on their phone.

After all of my research I was able to come up with three guidelines to follow to avoid getting the harassing calls from ST costumer service and/or your service being terminated.

    1) Stay below 2GB of data usage each and every month (1 to 1.5GB to be safe).
    2) Stay below twice the daily average data usage for the 2GB max which would be 133.33MB in any 24 hr period.
    3) Do not stream audio or video or have a large continuous file download from the same internet location for more than a 2 or 3 hours straight. That would be considered "continual and/or excessive usage" which is prohibited in their ToS. Also I think that would also put you above the daily usage flag as well.

If you stay within the above three guidelines you should never hear from ST unless them make any future changes. Also, it is worth noting that, it seems that once you make their list of flagged "data abusers" they will continually watch your account like a hawk.

A few confusing points came up in the discussion as well. Because the ST ToS states in a couple places state that audio and video streaming and tethering is not allowed. Then in the section they added about smart phones it says that you can use your Smartphone to do anything it does natively out of the box and you can use any app available in the app store. Well these two parts of the ToS directly conflict with each other. Because the E71 can stream video from the pre-installed YouTube app, stream audio from the pre-installed internet radio app, and every time you connect it to your computer a window pops up and asks you if you want you use your E71 as your internet connection (tethering) all "natively out of the box." Then you can also download out of the ovi app store an app that allows you to turn your E71 into a WiFi internet hotspot, again another form of tethering. Plus some of the ST reps on this facebook site have told customers that it is ok to watch YouTube on their ST smart phones (again video streaming). It seems that ST needs to make some changes to their ToS or make public exactly what they consider excessive use. Everyone has pretty much agree they would have no problem staying within the rules if ST would just give us a clear definition of what the rules are. Or they just need to simply stop saying unlimited for the data web part and just tell us how much we actually get each month like they do on their cheaper plans.

Finally, I think the reason the ST took down the original discussion was because a couple people got their $200 E71 smart phones shut off and the phones themselves where blacklisted so they could even sell them to someone else to get some of the money back the paid for the phone. And then one gentleman purchased an E71 used that was blacklisted and ST would not activate the phone for him even though he was a completely different person that the person who was the “data abuser.” Then at least one of the people, who had their smart phone shut off and blacklisted filed an official complaint with the Better Business Bureau, in Maryland I think. After the posts about the BBB filing the discussion topic quickly came down. That pretty much sums up like 6 pages of posts.

This does have a lot of good information in it, so I hope ST does not just take it right back down again."

Also a costumer that filed an offical BBB complaint was able to get ST to send him a refund check for the price of this phone.
