    Hi there,
I think it could be a 50:50 chance that it will not be a sim card with the necessary 'P' in it. One of my friends ordered a refurbished e71 online last week and he ended up getting a simcard without the 'P' in it. On the other hand, it appears if you buy it from walmart.online you will most likely get the right sim. Of course you will pay more but you will also have 15 days to return(30 days return policy with ST) it in case you didn't want to keep it. In other words you don't have to go through the inconvenience of shipping it. If they send you a replacement card fast, then more power to you all.
    Hope this helps

The other day I googled "straight talk tether" and this is the thread I ended up on. I read the whole 101 pages and learnd a lot. Before that I had never heard of this great site. Thanks to Mr Romeo for starting this thread and thanks to guys like gotanmp3 for keeping it going !!! I now have a straight talk smartphone and am a very happy camper. I may not know much about phones, but I felt the need to say thanks and who knows- I may be able to help someone with a phone like mine someday. I think I'll be sticking around for a while. -HH
Toshiba laptop on Nokia E-5 hotspot and lovin' it !!

I finally have one foot out of the stone age.

ST just announced a Samsung Android phone that will run on the Sprint towers. I'm thinking it wont take long for ST to clarify the "Unlimited Data" policy.

Well i picked up another 3 gs..installed my sim card from my working 3 g..i get one bar for a second or two..the either searching or no service.i can put the sim back in my 3g and its fine..here is the description on the phone i bought-
Firmware= IOS 4.3.4 freshly installed This was jailbroken using Sn0wbreeze. the SHSH blobs are backed up to Cydia for firmwares 3.1 through 4.3.4
Would you say my no service issue is because of 4.3.3? my old phone was on 3.1.something... can i "downgrade from 4.3.3? If i were to reset phone back to factory specs..would i need to worry about "bricking?"

No need to, it will be just like Virgin: all the slow internet access you have the patience to tolerate.
We're not talking AT&T here, Sprint's 3G network is slow.

3 options you bought a busted iphone with damaged, hopefully not...
    Reset network settings from phone...
Or do a Complete restore ( this option requires you to read as you need to first download tiny umbrella http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/ and save shsh files...hopefully there is something 4.3.3 or less, if you do have a shsh for anything under 4.3.3 then start server with tiny umbrella

Now download which ever firmeware under 4.3.3 that tiny umbrella has saved for your iphone http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=750

Now download a program call Snowbreeze http://ih8sn0w.com/index.php/welcome.snow

You will need to use snowbreeze to make a custom firmware file so you can restore with itunes...

After snowbreeze makes custom firmware put iphone in pwned dfu according to instructions with snowbreeze

Open itunes and hold shift and click restore, find custom firmware you just created and restore with itunes.

This is the only way to restore firmware on iphones with 6.15 So please follow all steps exactly
Well I used tiny umbrella and found everything from 3.something to 4.3.4. Now Im getting the "not a valid ipsw' from snowbreeze

Check your baseband version. It should be referred as modem version within about in your iPhone. You maybe getting no signal because your baseband is locked to AT&T but the SIM is trying to roam on T-mobile.

To find unlockable baseband versions, google "iclarified ultrasn0w"

No, don't install the iPad baseband, it wonks out your GPS and so far the Dev Team has not made good on their claims of working to find a fix. Unlocking IS NOT NEEDED to use an iPhone on Straight Talk.

I'm not sure which SHSH (if any) your iPhone has "on file" with Cydia, but you can use iFaith to back up the SHSH currently on your iPhone. I don't think Apple is signing anything older than the current verson, so you'll probably need your SHSH if you're interested in jailbreaking. Either way, once you've solved your SHSH backup, do a DFU restore and start from scratch. The Straight Talk SIM will work fine for activating the iPhone and you should be good to go.

I didn't have much luck getting into DFU using PwngTool. I recommend using Redsn0w to get into DFU.

You can google "redsn0w enter dfu" for some guides.

Once the phone is in DFU mode, start up iTunes. iTunes will give you a warning saying the phone is in restore mode. The only option will be to select the correct ipsw to restore your phone. You need to hold down a keyboard key while clicking the restore button in iTunes. For mac its the "alt/option" key. I haven't had a windows machine for a while, but its probably the shift, ctrl or alt key. You should be running tinyumbrella to validate the old firmware if you're intending to restore to something like 4.3.3 or 4.2.1 which can be used for "untethered" jailbreaks which mean when you reboot the phone, the jailbreak will still be active.

Before throwing it back on eBay, you can do one last thing to test the phone. Go to your local official AT&T store. Tell them you just bought an unlocked phone on Amazon, yada yada. Ask for a SIM card to activate with the phone. They should give you one for free. Activate the SIM online with all zeros for the IMEI. I don't know if you need to add any money to the SIM or just need to activate the SIM. Pop it in to your 3GS, reboot the phone, see if it says AT&T with signal bars.
