Slow / lagging data connection in Vancouver

    Does this happen to you?

When I'm accessing the internet on my iPhone 4 (browser, email, app store, etc.) during the am and pm rush hour commute in the Kitsilano, Fairview Slopes and Cambie Village areas, the connection lags and things take forever to load. It's like the connection just stops. I'll try toggling airplane mode to see if resetting the antenna helps, but not really. I'm just wondering if this is due to network congestion or if it is just my phone.

Anyone experiencing the same kind of connection issues in this area at these times? Thanks for your input.

Yeah, the Internet connections still suck. Any app that pings for data like speed apps show as being fine but actual pages are really bad as is google maps or any download for that matter. Oh, and it's all over Vancouver too. Frustrating.

With Christmas very near, I don't doubt the network is a bit laggy. Texts, browsing, mms, calls, and all that other happy crappy stuff. 'Tis the season, dudes...

Is this on a regular basis or a recent occurance? I tend to hear this from my friends on Rogers too.

This is happening all over Vancouver Island too. I was trying to watch some YouTube videos on my dinner break at work this evening and couldn't. Evening shifts are enough of a bore and I didn't have a book or anything to chill out too... ugh.. so annoying. This is actually becoming more and more frequent and I knew that if I checked HoFo I'd see other complaints too!

    agent_nagawa,

Here is a massive thread on one of Apple's forums which I have been participating on to a great extent. It is entitled:

"4.2.1 having erratic 3G data connection". If you do not have 4.2.1 on your iphone then it is not relevant to your situation. However, you may see your situation reflected there as there are quite a few Rogers/Fido customers complaining there who have had problems with 4.2.1 and DFU restores etc etc etc have not solved the problem:

One idea is that it is the Network Controlled Fast Dormancy implementation of Apple - introduced in 4.2.1 - which may not be playing so nicely with some Rogers towers/whatever.

I never use my i4, but on my BBs and Androids I never have those issues so it seems the issue is not the Rogers network but your iPhone (or the iPhone on the Rogers network).

Count me in on this... been happening for at least 3-4 weeks now, I would guess. I have restored my iPhone, reset network settings, etc. Fairview Slopes, Cambie Village, on the Seabus, by the Lions' Gate - all of the above. Sadly, the only place it's worked great so far is in Oakridge Mall trying to swap iPhones.

I wouldn't be surprised by what Peterg2 said - 4.2.1 is on my phone and I don't remember it being bad like this previously. Maybe Rogers needs to get updating their towers...

    Hi HOFOs

Thanks for sharing your observations and providing the other thread on the Apple board. I'm not sure if I should phone in or wait until this 4.3 update is available.

Phone it in. The more people complain, the more likely they are not to ignore it.

Man, this is really pissing me off. I'm bored as hell as work and have no internet radio on my phone. Such a nuisance. Other employees are pissed that their Rogers data connections are bunk too!
