    Nexus one desktop dock (Canada)

Does anyone know if there's a reseller or site which offers or can order the Nexus one desktop dock with delivery to Canada?

The only option I've found so far was to order from HTC to a US company, then pay to have it reshipped (plus $8 in fees) to Canada. Total cost comes out to be over $80, which seems steep for the dock.

I've checked mobilicity, puremobile and a local cell phone store (Ottawa) without anyone who can (as of yet) order it.

Ebay sellers seem to be charging a lot for it (current listing is $90 + $40 shipping).

Any leads would be a huge help.

The dock from google was much less than that.

That said, I would not recommend it. It barely holds the phone ... the slightest bump will either disconnect it from charging or knock it out of the cradle all together.

When I put it in the dock I then hit the power button to put it to sleep ... 50% of the time when I take my finger away the phone shifts, disconnects and re-connects and the screen comes back on.

    Very annoying.

Hrrmm, thanks for the heads up.

I wasn't considering docks which only had a USB connector prior to this. I'll have to read up on both styles now.

I am of the other opinion. I find the OEM Google dock to be excellent. Because it works via contact with the pins on the bottom, you don't have to fiddle around with the USB plugin and don't have to worry about any wear & tear or loosening of the connectors. Also, it charges much, much quicker with the dock than with a USB plugin for some reason. Part of the reason of the higher cost is that the dock has built in bluetooth for connecting speakers. I really like the dock, and haven't had a problem with how it sits. You just learn to press the button in a way that doesn't knock it out of the cradle. Anyone with two or more fingers can do it!

I do agree that the cradle contacts are a great idea but it doesn't change the fact that it is not secure enough. You admit that you have to learn a special technique to turn it off which proves my point (but you didn't have to be an *** about it).

Charging is limited by the current capacity of the charger. A wall charger has a much higher current capacity than the USB port on a computer. This is why it charges faster ... nothing to do with the cradle.

That dealextreme dock is much nicer then most of the cheaper aftermarket docks I've seen. Many of them are simple flat docks where the phone is sitting solely on the USB or possibly a little tab.

Thanks for the input everyone, heating both sides definitely helped out. In the end I decided on the official n1 dock, mainly because I come to bed later a fair bit and was afraid of wearing or breaking off the microusb while loading the phone in the dark. I found a version on hofo, which lowered the price a bit and allowed for direct shipping without the hassle of an intermediary.

Ill have to practice up on the loading / locking the phone however. Having it rock off the dock and lighting up the screen in the middle of the night not go over well.
