Question Unlocked Chatr Mobile's Nokia C3 not working with a Virgin mobile Sim Card.

    Hi there,
I am hoping some one can help me out here. Last time I posted a question here after searching and spending time by googling but posting here got be a quick and reliable answer.
I bought a Nokia C3 from Chatr and used a website for unlocking my phone. Because Chatr was not in the list of services providers on that website, I selected Rogers and I was given an unlock code.
When I entered the unlock code in my C3, it said "Phone Restriction Off." After this I assumed my phone was unlocked and then swaped the phone with a Virgin MObile Sim. When I tried to make a call, it said cannot connect to the network. This was a working Virgin Mpbile sim from my other phone but it did not work on what I thought was an unlocked Nokia C3.

Not jsut to try again, I entered the unlock code on the Chart Nokia C3 and the phone gave me a "Phone not restricted" message. So I am thinking my phone is unlocked but not sure why its not working with a Virgin Mobile sim card.

    Can someone please help me?

    Regards,
    ecs1

It's not supposed to work. A Nokia C3 will never work with Virgin Mobile Canada service. The Nokia C3-00 does not have any 3G bands. Sorry, but your phone is incompabtible with Virgin Mobile as they do not have a 2G GSM network.

Computergeek thanks for responding. Couple of follow up questions to increase my knowledge on this issue:

    1. I unlocked the phone so I could use this device in another country that has GSM 900/1800 band. Since this phone in unlocked, I should not have any problem using this phone only for voice and text in a country that supports GSM 900/1800, correct?

    2. I noticed that Virgin mobile in Canada does not support GSM technology and instead has EDGE and GPRS. COuld this also be a reason for the problem on my phone?

    2. Virgin does not have a GSM network. (nor does it have GPRS or EDGE which are both 2G technologies).

Virgins network is HSPA. It is a 3G network.

ECS, Virgin will only work with a device that operates on the 3G 850 and 1900 MHZ frequencies, nothing more.

Thank you all for responding. I now understand the reason.

Another question for any one who is familiar with the mobile frequencies in India (GSM 900/1800). Do you think I can use this phone for voice and text in India on GSM 900/1800 hz?

The c3 is a quadband phone, you'll have no problems.
I keep my phones in a shoebox. Truefax.

virgin mobile is using HSPA network, so Nokia c3 won't work, bell and telus using same network so nokia c3 won't work either.

Any Chat-R phone on the market will NOT work with mobilicity.
You would have to buy a either a...
    Mobilicity Phone
    Unlocked Wind Phone
    Unlocked T-mobile USA 3G phone
    Unlocked 3G 1700 Phone

Agree with what Eric has said. You can unlock a wind phone or a tMobile and use with mobilicity.
