A Question for all of the E71 Sim in a iPhone people!

After you put the E71 sim in your iphone and it worked, did you try putting another sim in the E71 (like a AT&T sim, or H2O or T-mobile) to see if it works?

The reason I ask is because I heard that if you put any sim other than the ST sin into the E71, it will automatically deactivate the ST sim.

Tried an AT&T SIM that was active on the iPad Data Only plan - the phone just threw up the typical Nokia SIM lock error. It is odd that the E71 SIM works in AT&T locked phones but not vise versa. Other than this proving the phone is shipped from Straight Talk with a carrier lock, nothing of consequence happened. I'm not interested enough in the E71 to pay for an unlock code.

The only way installing a different SIM in the E71 would deactivate your current SIM is if you contacted Straight Talk and requested they send a replacement SIM to be associated with that E71's IMEI.

yeah the phones are locked to America Movil (ST/Tracfone/Net10), if you want to resell the phone, simply buy an unlock code then flash with an unbranded OEM Nokia firmware. Or keep it as a backup phone.

The problem is, nothing is stopping the person who buys the phone from contacting Straight Talk, providing the IMEI and claiming they need a replacement SIM. It might be worthwhile to unlock the phone if someone you can trust (friend, family member, etc.) will be using it on a different GSM provider, but selling it to anyone in the general public could easily result in your SIM being deactivated.

Odds are better it won't end up back on Straight Talk if you sold it internationally, but it could still end up re-sold and wind up back stateside. The ideal solution is to keep the phone as a backup or throw it in storage and forget it exists.

I want to give my e71 to my sister to use with ATT. She will not be using it with ST. Can I flash it to OEM nokia firmware without unlocking it first or do I need to first enter the unlock code then flash the firmware?

Doesn't work that way, your ST account is tied to the serial # of your SIM card not the actual phone or the IMEI#. That's the way it works with all GSM networks, I've done SIM swapping for years in unlocked GSM phones. Once the E71 is un-carrier locked it can be used on any GSM network of your choice.

Guys, the phone is carrier locked (hard locked), so even if you did flash it with OEM Firmware it will still be carrier locked. Do some research on how to enter the code. Then buy a code from an unlocking service of your choice.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you were to provide me your E71's IMEI, I could have your service canceled in a day or so with no other information needed about your account. You really need to take a closer look at the way America Movil handles GSM accounts before giving anyone bad advice that could lead to the cancellation of their service.

You mean the same company that can't do a simple credit card process and who customer service makes Virgin Mobile look like a 1st rate company? I really don't think Pablo or Carlos cares as long as your paying your $45 every month.

Bad advice like that could really screw some people over because gotanmp3 is right. If you have an account with America Movil it is tied to your IMEI number, not your sim number. Your sim number is on file under your IMEI on their side so that they have a reference to your account. If you buy an E71 just to activate it and throw the sim in another phone and then sell the E71 to someone as a Straight Talk phone then as soon as the person goes to activate the sim-less phone they ask for the IMEI number. They will terminate the old account regardless as to if it's activated or not and send a sim to the new customer. Think of the money they make selling those 50 dollar phones for 200 and they want it to stay that way as long as possible. Plus I really don't think Pablo or Carlos cares as long the new guy is paying his $45 a month and they also keep the old guy's $45 a month as a bonus!
