    Using a calling card overseas?

Not sure where to post this but it is a Verizon phone so I figured maybe I will ask here. Basically I am buying my girlfriend a calling card to use from the Dominican republic to the US for a week and was wondering if that was do-able or would it still count as international? And if not which calling cards would you recommend thank you.

As long as she can dial a US number or toll free number (ex: 1-800, or 1-888, etc) to dial the international number it will be fine. You will pay for minutes used, that's all. We do this on our family plan and it saves a lot of money. You could technically even get on a Friends and Family plan and add a non toll free number in one of the slots and the minutes are free. Nights/Weekends are also free if you are on one of the F&F plans.

But if you are outside of the US then its going to charge you the cost of minutes @ roaming rate.

    We use TDS

It will count as roaming. Your verizon wireless bill will reflect the cost of the call FROM the dominican republic to the dial-in number for the calling card (likely $1.99/minute).

Right, $1.99 a minute which is the same cost as calling you (or whoever) in the US directly, so you would be wasting the cost of the calling card.
