    Strongest reception

I have a HTC Magic which is nearly impossible to get reception with in my basement. I am thinking of Upgrading to an Iphone 4 or the Captivate. I really need something with good signal reception. What would you guys recommend?

Before buying: testing with the model of phone you are considering if at all possible.

It's suck if you bought a good, high-sig phone but still couldn't get reception in your bsmt.

BTW consider the Rog Buyer's Remorse policy if you buy a phone but still get no sig.

You can ask for using your phone with Wifi,, Sorry I am not remembering the name of the feature. Just a caution though, it does not work with Iphone.

If you speak to retentions then they can give to you for free. Added bonus, the calls made on Wifi does not count towards your monthly usage.

Search the forums, you will find a thread on this.

Great idea ... except only BB phones supported by Rog.

It's called UMA, or in RogSpeak "Wifi Calling" as seen here:
    rogers.com/WiFiCalling

Advice on how to get free "WiFi Calling" is here:

I can't speak for the iphone but the Captivate has been a good purchase for me.

My magic when used in the basement would lose signal frequently and I couldn't use it at all in certain areas, call quality was marginal and often times I would have to move upstairs or risk dropping a call completely. The Captivate on the other hand still has great call clarity when showing zero bars on the screen, and I have only lost reception completely a couple of times. The times that I did lose reception the phone showed abnormally low bars when upstairs or outside the house, so this was probably not the phone itself causing the loss of signal.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the improvement my switch has made but I wouldn't base your decision on my experience alone. Best to test both phones you are interested in before purchase if you can.

Thanks for the advice guys. My main concern is text messaging. With my magic Its well.......A hunk of junk for signal strength indoors. I've had friends over recently with Iphone 3GS's and they get 2-3 bars in situations where the magic got 0. Does the Iphone 4G compare in reception strength to the 3GS?

The iPhone 4 has way better signal then the 3GS IMO. For best signal I will say get a BB. But out of the two phones you mentioned I would choose the iPhone 4 for sure.
