^ I'm sorry, I must not have stated clearly in the original post that I'm not interested in changing my prepaid plan to a different one, such as PagePlus. I'm asking whether an iPhone can be used on my existing plan (which I now remember is the old VZW "FreeUp" prepaid plan in which I'm grandfathered), provided that I of course first purchase a data plan. I would think that if you can on the newer INpulse plan or on whatever the current prepaid plan is called, then Verizon would activate an iPhone on FreeUp, too. Hopefully someone who has tried doing so will respond.

Have you tried calling VZW prepaid @ switching your phone.

Ask for the prepaid customer service. They are very helpful and might be able to help you with that. There are rumors of a late Summer 2012 VZW prepaid iPhone service options arriving.

I don't have an iPhone yet. Even a used iPhone is expensive, so I'm not going to buy one until I know that VZW will activate it on prepay. I'm not so sure I want to trust what some salesman says or a customer service rep who can only regurgitate what they have written down for them on their little telephone scripts. That's why I'm trying to do a little reconnaissance here first, seeking a reply from someone who actually in real life has personally tried to put an iPhone on prepay, and can say from first-hand experience.

Apologies to the mods for my not doing due diligence and finding this thread first; thanks for merging.

I finally broke down and called *611 VZW Customer Service last night. As usual, I landed on the separate Customer Service dedicated to prepay customers. I was pleasantly surprised that my rep seemed very knowledgeable with seemingly credible answers to all my questions right off the top of her head. (I guess she gets a lot of iPhone inquiries.) She explained that no smart phone whatsoever can be activated on my FreeUp plan. It may be technically possible, but it's just that their prepay system isn't programmed to manage voice & data on the same account. (You know — like how they didn't bother to program their system to distinguish someone on a monthly auto-pay replenishment from credit card, so I still get three annoying text messages every month about how it's time to pay, that can't be turned-off.) She said that she'd be surprised if they ever allowed iPhones in the future.

AS someone has already said that's not prepaid and month to month is not on the $50 plan either.

PagePlus doesn't have M2M with Verizon customers and its prone to issues from my experience with them which is why I left.

Why do some people who are replying to a thread about X always jump in with information about Y?

Now that Cricket is getting in on the iPhone craze, will VZW finally introduce the iPhone 4/4s onto prepaid???

Boost is also going to have the iPhone in September.

That may be one of Boost's last cards to play to make up for other issues they have. They opened a Pandora's box with unlimited prepaid and it seems close to turning against them now.

I think all these new prepaid iPhone users will be very disappointed in the data speeds. Sprint's network sucks, and it sucks hard. Cricket and Boost are both reselling Sprint and all the new users will only further deteriorate the already dismal speeds. There's a reason they can offer "Unlimited"...

You never miss an opportunity to bash Sprint, do you? I can tell you from personal experience in multiple locations that the upgrades they are doing are making a huge difference. I have a Virgin Mobile USB card that I was getting very satisfactory performance while on a two week vacation last month. A year ago I wouldn't have said that, but Sprint is definitely improving by leaps and bounds.

Also, just as a point of clarification, Cricket is only selling the iPhone in its PCS markets--not the AWS markets nor the Sprint only markets.

Back on topic, I really hope Verizon starts allowing the iPhone on their prepaid plans. It would add a terrific choice for customers.

No doubt the Boost iphone will be a big seller but there are so many gsm mvnos and prepaid divisions to use with unlocked gsm iphones as well as unofficial Verizon /Cdma iphones on Page Plus so there are many unofficial options. It's just that Boost will have Sprint Ad money behind it trumpeting it to the non byod /Average Joe/Jane crowd. They will sell a lot of them.

As for cdma iphones on Vz prepaid? Not at this time. Android, Blackberry and Web OS only and only on certain plans . The old Verizon prepaid plans had no smartphones allowed at all because of abuse . That's changing but still isn't cheap as say Page Plus or gsm/Att mvnos.

Other than the chatter here on Ho Fo and the Techno Buffalo link that everyone is just regurgitating I think that should be a believe it when you see it type situation.

Sprint will be half way through their 2 year commitment with Apple. Maybe the numbers are not looking all that good on postpaid. I'm not saying it will/will not happen, who knows at this point.

Sprint seems to be exceeding their iPhone targets, they seem to be crediting the device on most media. Apple seems intent on not being left out of the growing global prepaid wireless arena. Sprint will offer the iPhone on their prepaid service soon, but so will At&t, VZW and maybe even T-Mobile before the end of 2012.

A VZW prepaid iPhone option will definitely cost more, but it's like they say, you get what you pay for. It would be great to see VZW provide an LTE iPhone on prepaid while the other carriers are initiating sales of the iPhone 4/4s...

I think it's 50/50. I'd say yes, but you have to pay $600. I'd say no because Verizon wants POSTpaid users to feed their trough for two years, not a one time phone buyer (who'll probably put it on a cheaper mvzno like Page Plus anyway...
    Any NEW info???
