    Blackberry emoticons on iPhone?

Tried to Google this but couldn't find anything close.

My gf uses a Blackberry and when she sends my iPhone an SMS with emoticon, they usually just come across like
    Code:
    /:)
or whatever. Is there anything that can convert these?

Failing that, is there a list of Blackberry emoticons with the associated code so I know what they even mean? lol

Thanks for any of your help.

No really - I need to know this answer too - is there really no way to convert BB emoticons to iPhone??? No one seems to have an answer for this questions - it is really frustrating.

They are part of BB system software. On android, it converts some of them. i don't know of a way to do it on an iPhone.

Similarly, iPhone Emoji won't show up on non-iPhones.
Seems like it is cool to have these in your sig?

Sometimes a couple of friends will send my the "hug" emoticon from their BB and when I first saw it....I was like "WTF!!!!"

If you do not know what I am talking about, ask someone who has a BB to send you the "hug" emoticon and take a really good look at it

Unfortunately those symbols are proprietary system-specific extensions and are not compatible with other non-BB OS-based systems.

The closest to a worldwide standard would be Emoji, although there's 3 different variants of those as well. iPhone implements the Softbank version. KDDI and DoCoMo have their own (incompatible) variants.

It's generally best to just use text for carrier- and OS-interoperability.

I use bitesms on my iPhone4. I'll get most of the emoticons right but some do show up as symbols.

Well I don't know! Same as you, I'm already frustrated for a few weeks now because I can't get an answer on a simple question.

The question WAS answered by XFF in March. You may not like the answer but it is what it is. If you want to read the BB emoticons, get a BB.
