Install it like any other non-market android app- enable non-market application installs in Settings>Applications>check Unknown sources, then either use the android sdk (adb install xyz.apk) or transfer it to your microsd, install an file system app like astro, and find the apk and install it.

Did somebody manage to install Facebook and Twitter programs and do they run normally (incl. widget)?

If it isn't in Sharp's market then install the APKs manually (google for 'appname'.apk). Guessing it's either in Sharp's market and/or preinstalled though.

    Android Updates

As far as I know, the new SH7218u and SH7228u are running on Froyo 2.2.1, which is good, but does anybody know if Sharp is offering updates for its lineup of Android phones?

AFAIK you shouldn't expect anything other than custom versions of android for the chinese market...

Yes, but I wonder if they update these and if they do, how you receive updates - may be through the update function in the phone (if there is one)?

OTA should still be available as an option in Settings.

Whether or not Sharp will push any updates, that's another matter altogether.

Finally someone put these two together and did a comparison review:
    http://mobile.pconline.com.cn/review/1103/2362935.html

I don't know how they came to the conclusion that the pictures from these two devices were "rather close" in quality, but there is a picture that shows how much thicker the SH7218U is than the SH-01B~
Can I have my signature in Chinese...?

They're both made in China, aren't they?

I agree that the SH7218u is - my guess - 2 mm thicker, but to be fair I think this is the first Sharp phone for the Chinese market that shows a close resemblance to its Keitai brother, and the specs are not to bad either, apart from the downgraded camera. The 8 MP CCD from the SH1810C (with better panorama mode though) would have been great, but I guess you can not have all, and for an Android device, the camera is still impressive!

    [SH-01B]

Doesn't look like there's any kanji chars inside saying Made in China. Probably Japan-made then, unless they changed to the Chinese plant later in the product cycle (like with the 920SH- first batches were MIJ but my April 08 production 920 was MIC).
