All right guys, need your opinions. I've been wanting a flip-phone for a while now, but after using a droid for so long I'd find it hard to go back to a dumbphone. With only two choices though (this and the 007SH), I've found myself hesitant to make the jump, especially after trying to read through all the current info on it; while everyone's done a stellar job making it easy as possible for the user, I'm a total neophyte to even rooting my phone and thus I'm still intimidated as hell :P

Plus, there's the whole 600 MHZ processor; my Acer Liquid running at 700 and I'm starting to see lag every so often without any big apps in the background. Plus, I've never used anything other than 3G internet-wise. So, my question is; for those who have switched to this phone from a typical smartphone, how would you compare it?

I am currently running it in conjunction with my iPhone, and whilst the iPhone is more polished and a tad faster (iPHone 4), I love the SH7218u. Many here will, primarily because of the form-factor and the fact it runs android.

Good fine dillon, if anyone needs help getting these, I can help them you! I will check out to see if these are source from Sharp China or they are just high grade replicas! Either way I can get these parts for ppl that needs them sicne the stupid keypads on the 7218U turns yellow over time and I just got an idea, since the 7218 and sh01b is the exact same size maybe I can find a sh01b keypad and stick it in a 7218u?

I wonder if they are selling any white SH7228U keypads? Since they look so much better than the SH7218U keys and there are really no difference functionality wise. I'm really thinking of getting one because of my yellowed keypad. Anyone that can translate help out and see? If not, I'll still def get a white SH7218U keypad.

Turns out replacing the keypad is very easy as well, the top material is basically just like a large sticker that fits on top of the actual buttons so replacing keypads would not be hard at all.

Haha I was actually thinking of getting in touch with you man! Having the SH-01B keys would be pretty awesome I have to say, so I would def buy some if you can find any! If not, SH7228U keys are the next best thing.

So whenever you find some, shoot over a price and I am more than willing to get them through you, than get overcharged by a taobao agent. I say this every time I talk to you but I really appreciate you going out of your way to help me and countless other members.

I already thought about putting SH-01B keys in there, and they'd fit. Problem is that the buttons won't match up to the OS. I already keep hitting the camera key on my SH-01B too much these days.

The SH7228u has an ideal keyboard. It is identical to the SH-01B but with android markings...

I would second martindesu's statement. It depends entirely on what you do with your phone. If you are looking to do a lot of web surfing, watching videos, and playing games, then this is probably not the phone for you. As a workhorse smartphone - making calls (gasp!), email, sms, basic weather apps, GPS navigation, etc - is works very well. I use the US T-Mobile Edge service for data - quite slow overall but more than adequate for these basic smartphone functions. The phone is also fairly responsive when the stock OS is trimmed down a bit. It is not a powerhouse smartphone and cannot be made to be one, but it is perfect for what I need and want at the moment.

Regarding rooting it and otherwise modifying the phone, don't worry. The process is very easy and almost foolproof. We can walk you through it. I have a reference thread over at xda with detailed instructions and download links for everything that you would need:

... oh man Realistically speaking, I'm wow'ed by the specs of phones like the SII, RAZR, and Xperia S, but to be honest - well, I use the internet primarily for looking up hockey/tennis scores and e-mail, I've got my PSP for gaming, the camera's already pretty damn good, and it seems to be fine with GPS to boot. (Plus, ebooks. Looooooooooove my Google Market ebooks). Unless something changes I might have a new phone quite soon once enough disposable income has been acquired!

zero: Tried to PM you, didn't get through. Any other way to reach you man?

Longtime lurker, I finally joined howardforums to hopefully help someone who had the same problem as me.

I know it's not quite the sh7218u, but I recently purchased the sh7228u in in pink& martindesu asked for some pictures. So here you go!

With the purchase of this phone i've come to the conclusion that I like phones that are a challenge and/or unique.

Welcome to the club - cool looking phone! Part of me still wonders if I should have got one, but there aren't any whites around. I like that external display quite a lot though.... interesting phone for sure.

Well I got it! The best way for you to have SH01B keypads on the 7218U is to buy a SH01B dummy and replace it. I've had it done before with a 933SH that one of the members needed since the keypad turned white.

I can get dummies for anyone that needs a SH01B keypad and you can keep it as a paper weight hahahaha.

Yeah, it is a lovely looking phone. I might try to get one some day.

Are there no white SH7228u keypads on Chinese auction sites?
