Samsung swings into third place in terms of both overall upgrade numbers and average upgrade time. Samsung so far has upgraded only one out of nine Android phones that fit the criteria for our comparison, giving it an upgrade score of 11.1 percent. That phone -- the Samsung Intercept -- was on the market for 159 days before getting its upgrade. Its rollout also encountered some serious problems http://blogs.computerworld.com/17559...ntercept_froyo -- so all together, this score is not one to be proud of.

Regarding the "bricked by upgrade" Intercepts... how many of those were bone stock vs. ones that had been played with (rooted, hacked, custom kernel, Apps2SD, etc)?

This info is nothing new, Samsung has always been known as the worst company when it comes to updates. They promised updates for the instinct, promised an app store, I finally got an update on the instinct like a week before the touchscreen broke and I ended up going to Android and selling the Instinct.

Read up on the false advertising they and t-mobile did with the Samsung Behold 2. They promised us an upgrade to 2.1, then just decided to not upgrade it and they gave out a 1.6 and said have fun we won't ever release 2.1. Then they pulled the youtube video of the add they made and released saying the phone would get 2.1 soon.

Most of the bricked intercepts were probably just phones that had been customized, not necessarily rooted and played with. The folks who flashed a stock 2.1 rom first had no problems upgrading to 2.2 on the intercept. This is why it is always better when upgrading to go stock then upgrade since Samsung can't know all the changes and customizations used by everyone when they write the update.

The saga continues, if you didn't actually click the link in the first story... Now I'm paranoid that my good Intercept will stop working too. Wonderful...

If you thought those stories were worth reading you will love this one. You should never want to buy another samsung phone after reading this.
