I just bought a iPhone 4 used off Craigslist and i'm quite happy with it. The only real thing that would make me upgrade in September is if it was a 4G phoine. 4G is blazing fast here in Rochester, NY.
I'm glad I didn't hold out for the vzw iPhone 5....I bought the vzw iPhone 4 the 1st day it was available...that way I could upgrade in october 2012 when it most likely will be the LTE version....I really doubt if we will see an LTE version this year especially since it isn't widely available on VZW yet and at&t will only be adding LTE to just 10 markets by the end of the summer....
btw, I'm really happy with the phone, just really looking forward to iOS 5...I have jailbroken my phone because coming from android, I could not deal with iOS terrible notification system...but I think iOS 5 will make my phone feel brand new again and I probably won't feel the need to jailbreak....
I just want a 4' screen and I'd be happy, since dual core seems to be a given, and I'd assume 1GB RAM. If it's 3.5' again, I see no need to upgrade from my i4

What do you need 1GB of RAM on a smart phone? how much RAM does it currently have? Why do you think the iphone5 needs it?
iPhone 4 has 0.5 GB of RAM, and with a dual-core processor in iPhone 5, 1 GB of RAM would definitely help. A RAM upgrade can oftentimes produce a higher performance increase than a processor upgrade.
I am a little confused. My Verizon phone was able to roam on GSM because they used TDMA. Tell it was shutdown. The phone recognizes it as Analog. If PCS has TDMA, It could be technically be used on GSM.

Yeah twice the RAM would allow developers more independence in producing app's not to mention if they went to dual core processing and extra RAM they could really start multitasking.
How much RAM does the iPad have? does anyone know?
Agreed,. Many people dont seem to realize how much memory the iOS and apps take and how many are active in the background. There are quite a few free Apps on the Market that tell you how much you have available. There is one called System Info which I use.
Because my phone frequently runs out of memory and slows down.
I'm with you and I'm still using the 3gs with 256mb ram inside. I'm constantly going in and killing apps to free up memory.
With today's computers having 8, 16, 32 gigs of ram, why haven't smart phones crossed the 1gb ram threshold yet? it can't be the price. a gig of ram should be real cheap.

RAM is cheap; small RAM may not be. It's like saying why can't they put a V8 in a Honda Civic. It doesn't fit!
