Try this APN Setting for Android Phones if your data stalls

I've been pretty annoyed with Mobi's inconsistent data (even with full bars of signal) for the past little while. I was at a cellphone store today and one of the salesperson was also using Mobi and I asked him if his data frequently stalled and he said not really (he's using a Galaxy S btw). So I looked at his APN setting and they were a little different from what I've seen on the forums here, and from my little bit of testing tonight, it's more consistent than what I had before. For those who are experiencing stalled data with their Android phones, try this setting out.

Name: mowap (don't think the name matters here, anything should work)
    APN: wap.davewireless.com
    Username: dave
    Password: password
    MCC: 302
    MNC: 320
APN type: default (his setting was "Internet + MMS", but "default" worked for me instead)

*everything else just leave them blank

The data doesn't stall as frequent (it DOES still stall though), but when it does stall, I just turn my data off and on to get it to work again (I'm using X10).

Please try and the setting out and report whether it works for you or not. Hope it helps those out who have been just as frustrated as me.

edit: hm...odd, so I ended up trying the default settings of:
    Name: MOWAP
    APN: wap.davewireless.com
    Proxy: 10.100.3.4
    Port 8080
    MCC: 302
    MNC: 320
    APN type: default

    and it now works flawlessly...WTF?!?! I don't know anymore...lol

Ya, I JUST realized that tonight as well...now I feel like an idiot for starting this thread. The default settings never worked for me the past 2 months...I wonder what happened for it to start working so well all of a sudden.

I had two APNs set up separately, one with proxy and one without. Each one was finicky at various times. I kept toggling between. It was very annoying. I didn't last 15 days, returned to WIND :P

    Another update.

Data was dead for me the whole day no matter which APN setting I had (the new one I mentioned, the default one with proxy and port, and without proxy and port). None of the settings had downstream traffic, only upstream. Anyone else experience the same thing today in Vancouver?

Data is still not working for me. I still only get upload traffic and nothing download...and Belgy, try adding the Proxy and Port to see if you see a difference. Not sure what the main differences are, but adding in the Proxy and Port fields seem to work better for some and worst for others.

Data and normal browsing is working for me now in Vancouver. However, speedtest app doesn't work for me anymore, it doesn't even register for the download segment, but gives me 1+ mbps for upload.

I tried dsl reports mobile test and get 321 kbit/s

My APN settings are bare bones, no proxy.

Well at least one thing is consistent for me now. I consistently have NO download traffic, while upload is fine...lol

Yeah, Vancouver data is still sketchy. Stalls a lot, speedtest fails, etc

So Wind will continue to make overtures towards Mobi customers dissatisfied with the data network; and Mobi will continue to flirt with Wind customers who are seeking better voice quality...

I wonder why these two bozos can't just both fix their problems so that we can have two all-round solid networks?

"Sketchy"... I wish it was like that; sketchy for me would be an improvement. I'm inside my house in Marpole between two towers (close to Cambie) and I can't get any signal.

If I get out of the house i find a weak Mobi signal. Enough to make a call. However, my T-Mobile Vibrant can't get any data regardless of where I am and what APN I use. Wi-Fi works great but that's about it. Not even on W. Georgia st. where the signal is quite good.

Anyone else having issues with data for Vibrant in Van?
