    Boost has cheaper unlimited service
Virgin has better phones... If you don't talk much on the phone you can get away with Virgin Mobile. If you need everything Unlimited or consume a high amount of minutes go with Boost.

Saw at local payless a zio for iwireless. Need so-called android smartphone plan, 200 any time minutes, unlimited email, sms, and web. mms is 0.2 each. Pricewise, it's at 199 with kroger member discounts, so far free activation.

Guess boostmobile may get it at similar price but no other discount.

Yes, most definitely. They have a new CDMA android handset that will be available at some point Q1 2011, this has been confirmed by Boost Mobile "Higher Ups". They also have a new Blackberry and several other "basic" handsets that will directly compete with other prepay carriers. I am a Boost Mobile dealer and have personally verified this info. Boost Mobile controls their market and it will amplify in 2011. Cricket may offer cheaper handsets but that's EXACTLY what they are, CHEAPER HANDSETS.

I don't have any personal experience with the VM newer phones, but if you look at their facebook page they seem to be having a lot of outages and people complaining about them. It would not do any good to have a cool phone if you can't use it.

I dunno what kind of outages they could have since we all use the exact same system.

An android phone would be nice but lets hope its something like the epic or transform and not
the intercept. I know someone with the intercept on vm and she says its a bunch of crap.

I've noticed the reports of outages too. Its pretty much on any site having to do with wireless. Maybe its just due to bugs since Virgin is still newer and might be getting the kinks out. who knows its somewhat odd :/

    ^ Speeds under perfect tower(average is 300-800k).

Virgin isn't exactly new... just a new name, on the same network.

Oh yeah then there's also reports of virgin having its own data pipe(most likely some kind of a VPN or network atop sprints) which uses different routing paths then sprint. Such tools as traceroutes has shown some Virgin users this who have EVDO data cards. Interestingly its very sporadic where users see Virgin routing and others see regular Sprint routing on Virgin. Its likely a regional thing.

I suppose some of the outage reports could be a *behind the scenes* result of a move to unify data on the Virgin brand in one way or another. Similarly how some Boost Pay As You Go users still see free web access while others don't.

Anyway I'll say give it some time before any conclusions are made

I have setup my mother on the Virgin Broadband2Go with their USB stick on the $40/unlimited plan with a Cradlepoint connected to a WRT54G.

It is on the SprintPCS network as shows ipchicken.com as well as traceroute to yahoo.com

I wouldn't say they have their own network... I would say that they have their own WAP Services/Proxies so they can control the data flow, but it should all still goto Sprint's Native carrier/coverage.

VM just released the LG Optimus, is going for 149.99 and is running Android 2.2 and Rev.A; i think for that price is a steal...

Someone on another thread said the 149.99 price is just temporary and then it goes to 249.99--not cheap.

I doubt it will rise up that much if it does at all.

Also note, this is the Boost section.
