Question Vodafone 803T - Turning on

I have an 803T, but I don't want to use it for phone call use, music, any of that stuff. I just want to be able to turn it on and use the integrated camera it has to store pictures to the SD card.

It doesn't have a USIM card. When I turn it on, it tells me to please insert a valid USIM card to proceed. I just want to be able to get past this bootup check and use the camera, so what should I do? It doesn't have to be a USIM card for the actual purposes of roaming. Is there some kind of cheap generic USIM card I can get? Some widget? Does it have to be Japanese?

    Thanks in advance.

Softbank/vodaphone keitais need a sim to power up so you need to software unlock it or get a hypersim. It needs to think it has a sim from their company otherwise it won't work.

You could probably just get a hypersim with a dead sim that someone has. There's no need to buy a USIM as they cost ooodles of money.

    It's all good (^_^)

Everyone's on their own for hypersims. I'm out har har har har har~~~~

    1. Where does one get the hypersim?

    2. It looks like you can get something like this for sub $10:
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/O2+Wirel...ci_sku=9010474

Would that work? I just need to put any old sim card in there, right? Wouldn't the hypersim work when empty, at least for the purposes of booting up the system?

You can get one from me or anyone else on the web.

hypersim doesn't work alone. it's just a passthrough converter. Without a sim card it's useless. That best buy O2 sim... I bet you won't work. Most hypersims are not designed for that carrier's sim cards so it would be a waste of money. Try AT&T or T-mobile. Something more common.

Seems like a software hack may be the cleaner solution here.

If you can find the person that is still alive that has the sw unlocking cables and firmwares sure then you should be able to SW unlock it. Chances are you have to send the phone to Hong Kong or something like that. Software hack is the cleaner solution and the most diffficult to locate for a source to do this for you. Good Luck.

And even if you SW unlock it, you will still need to have a sim inserted.

find an old deactivated sim and buy a hypersim from dealextreme (any will work, search for softbank). it'll get you past the Insert USIM message and you'll be able to use the camera and access the internal memory.

not worth it to pay for shipping to China and paying for the software unlock for something this old.

Much easier to hypersim it. I don't see what the problem is. SW unlock is convenient but not worth it.

OP said he would only use the camera and no calling so cpr issue isn't an issue.

although it seems that the sw unlock is free, so i would do that over paying for a hypersim.

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like SW is the cheaper/cleaner solution, even if hypersim is considered the "standard" approach.

But you say that a regular USB cable will do... I don't see any ports on the 803T that will accommodate a regular USB prong. It just has the charger, SD slot, and the headphone jack which is like mini-USB but is a razor thin rectangle. Not the usual trapezoid of mini-USB like in digicams.

And the phone predates June '06, so it should work.

i meant the original usb cable for the 803t which is the foma style cable, which I assumed you would have already know what usb cable an 803t would use...
