I mean, for a few bucks it seems like it would be cool to get a factory type unlock for a 4'th and third gen iPhone that stays unlocked forever without worrying about software updates.
Seems like there is no unlock coming anytime soon from the hardworking guys on the hacking teams, and this is NOT meant to insult them.
Seems like we can unlock for other companies, so can it be done for Crapple products?
Also, why can't they develop software or firmware that confuses the iPhone 4 into thinking it is an iPad so it automatically unlocks?
Best,
T
P.S. - also PLEASE stay on point with this thread and don't tell me about paying my carrier... My carrier will not unlock.

While this is an intriguing option... I need an unlocked phone that will work in the Great White North, USA, and Central and South America.
Seems interesting enough for me to keep an eye on but I really need a way to unlock.
Thanks.
P.S. Why is it that this type of chip cannot be blocked by Crapples Big Brother type software and hardware.
Why can't other companies chips not also be made to work this way?
Best,
T
If you're willing to travel to Canada (for example), you can go to the Apple store and buy a factory unlocked phone for a little more than the cost of a contract-free American iPhone. You can't do this online.
Thanks, but I was aware of this option.
At the risk of sounding like an a$$, please stay on point and answer my question.
Are there ways of paying to unlock?... A real unlock with a factory type code that is permanent.
Are there ways of confusing an iPhone 4 into thinking it is an iPad?
Thanks.
In a word - No.
I was on point. You wanted to know about factory unlocks. It's simple: they are all from apple in one form or another; everyone else is software. If you buy a factory unlocked phone, that's from apple. If you pay your carrier for the unlock, apple is the one who unlocks it.
BTW, at the risk of sounding like an as$, your question about tricking the iPhone into thinking it's an iPad is pretty much the software unlock being used right now.
Factory-unlocked from Apple (Canada) is your only option.

My aunt bought me 2 months ago one iphone4 , at Best Bye store in US without contract, i live in Europe.
Obviously the carrier is AT&T. Cant find a solution for a factory unlock since 2 months now. I can pay a "fee" for this service.
I sow the previous post about, Apple (Canada) but how to contact them through internet?
The thing you're asking for is almost impossible to do.
The unlock service would have to be getting the NCK codes somehow. This would be very hard to brute force, and prob impossible to get from apple, so like XFF said, your only real option would be to get the phone from apple unlocked in the first place. They are unlocked in pretty much every country except the USA so take your pick.
Thanks, for the reply, and sorry to bother again. There is no apple center in my country, here the iphone4 is sold by the companies as vodafon etc for 1000$ with 1 year contract, they say is unlocked but ho knows?
If a carrier like Vodaphone, Orange, Rogers, Fido, etc. offer a factory unlocked phone, it'd be legitimate; that's part of the reason it is so expensive. They authorize Apple to unlock your phone. Once it's unlocked, it can never be locked again. Anyone who thinks they can get a factory unlocked phone for the cost of a subsidized phone is fooling themselves.
Just for curiosity, just came from their stores, and the iPhone 4 was locked under their respective carriers, and the factory unlocking wasn't possible option. This is insane. So we have to bye 1 for each country we go.
@tobash :
u r a cheap a$$ hard thinker..
OK, been observing folks at gsmforum, some have started offering factory unlocking service for certain iphones. Not from US (AT&T) so far. hope it just a matter of time. vendors on that club are constantly checked and rated, so if they cheat, they doomed... same as here.
another way : i was wondering if anyone out there supplies unlocked version logic board (yes, it way make more sense to do than just selling specific chip holding iphone ID's, as we know, it's gonna be really hard to solder/attach/assemble chip onto the board) ?
No. there is such a thing as a Carrier Unlock for iTunes, however it is IMEI dependent. Apple or your carrier uploads your IMEI number to their servers, once iTunes connects with your iPhone attached it will initiate a carrier unlock through itunes. this permanently unlocks your phone. you can not pay for this service if you are not entitled to it.
It's only a phone. Carry on.
