As much as I like new competitions as it'll drive competitiveness, new networks are usually not as good as incumbents in general, but it's part of the growing pains. I am not brave enough to switch over yet, but my 2 homes are very marginal with both GSM and HSPA on Fido (i.e. Rogers). They were fine when it was only original Fido network on 1900 pre merger, but once Rogers moved the Fido towers out, it's been very marginal like that around the buildings at both places. They are in very central downtown Richmond, not some remote locations. I phoned Fido numerous times in the past (but not lately) and only got lips service (such as my SIM card needs replacing, my iPhone 3G was the fault etc (now I'm on iPhone 4, no change). etc. So even incumbent is not perfect, nor they will even send someone to check the network out. I continue to have missed (not as often) and dropped (almost everyday) calls at both locations, and I have a 48 month long on my contract.
The grass is always greener on the other side. I should go back with Telus but their plans are more expensive and I'm a cheapie so I deserve to suffer sub par service and customer service.
No longer on a leash by Fido
