I've been a long time lurker, browsing through this forum to find answers that match my questions. So far so good! However, I couldn't find it through the search function, so I've decided to create a topic.
Whenever I receive a call, the caller is always "Unavailable" rather than a number or a name in my phonebook.
Is there anyway to show the caller ID when I receive a call? And yes, all phones had caller ID enabled.
Just for more clarification, I am able to receive calls, miss calls and receive SMS without any problems.
I live in Melbourne (Australia) and I had recently bought a prepaid Optus SIM. Currently using Mr.SIM as my Hypersim.
I'm not sure about Australia... But I know having Caller ID is a paid option in Canada. Perhaps, since you're using a prepaid SIM, you have not activated or do not have that feature in that card?
Just a suggestion, as even if your phone supports it, if your service provider doesn't provide it or you aren't subscribed to that function, you obviously wouldn't be getting it.
Unavailable means that the other line is a private number. My home number is also private so when some calls from home it says Unavailable.
Btw, does Optus work on 3G?
The Sheep Butler at your service
Currently using: iPhone 4S
and docomo PRIME series SH-07B
Previous phones: 3210.3200.X430.V200.K750i.RAZR V3i.5300 XpressMusic.N73.W910i.iPhone 3G.W595.E71
On another note I have done some research on the Optus Prepaid in regards to Caller ID.
It seems that unless you have chosen to opt out of the Caller ID service, you should have it by default.
Though they weren't specific on prepaid... Since they say that it is a free service I am assuming that the service is given automatically to prepaid as they say that "All new prepaid mobile handsets are provisioned with the Caller ID" in the Terms and Conditions.
In any case, qwerty is right, landlines are usually blocked and they say that it is Unavailable.. however since you said that all your calls are "Unavailable" I'm highly doubting that all the calls you get are from landlines.
Yeah I know. Optus also uses 3G 900MHz. I was asking whether Optus works with 3G on HyperSIM unlocked keitais since it works on Telstra.
To the OP question, I have used Optus before and caller ID is free and activated by default, I don't think they would disable it, try using your SIM into another phone.

Ahhh I see. I'm not too familiar with Australian providers... So I had to look it up on the net
Looking forward to seeing the solution to this too

I've been calling my SH-07B with my other mobile phone in which its caller ID is sent. Other mobile phones (when I call my friends) are able to see my details, but the SH-07B displays Unavailable regardless whether the caller ID is on or off

And Optus sadly doesnt work with 3G
But you are able to see the phone number when you call yourself?
After placing the pre-paid SIM into my original phone, I used my brother's phone to call my phone. The ID was "Call" rather than the mobile number or "Private Number".

Now... how would I be able to fix this? :S
My suggestion would be to call your provider and ask them, if you have confirmed that it's not your phone but the SIM instead.
If the link doesn't work, googling "optus no caller id" would work.
Hmm... Link didn't work. I typed it there but I came up with the old links that I checked up and read on previously.
In any case, yeah. Probably checking up with your provider may be a good idea. I'm not too familiar with this problem, but perhaps someone else may be able to help ^_^
