    Question Can I add-a-line without a 2-year contract?

Searched the forums and didn't find an answer, so I'll ask the question here.

I've got a grandfathered 600 min. Family Plan that currently has only 1 line. The second line was an @Home line that I ported out to Ooma. The remaining line is OOC. I want to add the second line onto the account (bringing it back up to 2 lines), but not get locked into a 2-year contract. I have my own phone/sim, so wouldn't need to get a subsidized device.

I've called T-Mobile and they are telling me I can't add-a-line, even if I have my own phone/sim, without a 2-year contract. Doesn't matter if I get a subsidized device or not.

Is the CSR blowing smoke? I know you used to be able to add-a-line without a contract if you brought your own device. Has this changed?

Call in and speak to Activations. As long as all lines on the family plan are out of contract, then you can add a line without contract.

Yes, the requirement is that all lines be out of contract to add a no contract line. It sounds like the OP meets that requirement, so he should ask to speak to a supervisor if necessary.

Thanks for the information. It took 3 more attempts, but I finally got an Activations Rep (including 1 supervisor) that knew I didn't have to have a 2-year contract with my new line.

I was then able to get $4.99 t-zones (same as my first line) added, and $9.99 unlimited family messaging. All-in-all it was worth the aggravation.

    Thanks again.
