Unhappy Unable to receive text messages

Last Sunday my Milestone stopped receiving text messages; I can send them fine - but nothing gets in.

I can receive messages from @msg.telus.com, but not direct mobile to mobile SMS.

I called Telus tech support; he found there was a message stuck in the cue with several piled up behind it. He told me the date, time and sender of the stuck message (and that at the time it had attempted to send 122 times) - but was unable to clear it. Trouble is that the system will not send subsequent messages until the current message is cleared.

The tech said it was a known Android issue, and that he would have to escalate my trouble ticket to the network engineers for support. He said I would likely go "a few days" without incoming texts, and suggested I used the phones calling feature to make voice calls until then (What? This thing makes voice calls, too??!).

4 days have elapsed since I last received a text message (aside from the Telus customer support survey to evaluate the performance of the service rep).

Is anyone aware of what that "known Android issue" is and / or how I might work around it? I'd rather not wipe the phone and start over - but if that's what's required I'll do it.

    Any suggestions?

In the mean time I have been using Skype (with limited satisfaction) and toying a bit with Tigertext. Honestly, I just want the sms feature I pay for to work sooner than later!

I ran into this a while ago. After getting nowhere with Telus tech support, I was able to sort it out - sort of.

If your milestone has too little available storage on the internal memory - less than 20MB - it will start to suppress incoming text and incoming voicemail notifications too. Check your available storage, and if it's less than 20MB try removing a some apps and rebooting the phone. Assuming that's the problem, this should sort out your messaging problems.

I got the same story from Telus when I talked to them. Blah blah blah escalated blah blah blah known issue we're investigating blah blah blah update when we have a fix.
Translation: "You're screwed until we provide a 2.2 Froyo update, but we're not going to tell you that because we're saving face. "
I wouldn't hold your breath to hear back from them any time soon.

Well, it sorted itself out on Friday afternoon; suddenly I had ~30 sms messages arrive; with all the alerts going off I felt like I was at a casino. I did still have >20MB free at the time (sitting at 22MB now; time to clean out some crap) so I doubt that was the problem or the number is more like 25MB; I can't be sure. Whatever it was it seems to be cleared now and all is working fine again; no action by myself or contact from Telus support.

It would be nice to get the 2.2 update sometime before the next version is obsolete. Seems unlikely now.

Still have to send the phone away regardless; the ear piece is nearly inaudible and my touch screen "freaks out" occasionally (gets gook between the glass and the bezel; I clean it out with a fine tipped bamboo skewer). Aside from those things and the crappy battery life it's been a pretty decent phone. Sort of.
