    Angry Adaptor for wired headset on N95 8GB

    Hello all,

    I’ve been looking for a while for a way to use my TheBoom headset (by UmeVoice) with my Nokia N95 8GB. The headset has a 3.5*mm 3 conductor plug, while the multimedia commector on the N95 is 2.5*mm 4 conductors. Using adaptors, I can only get playback with a buzz and no mic. Both Nokia and UmeVoice's supports leave me with the problem. Anyone with an idea about this?

    N95 8GB only has 3.5mm jacks. I don't believe the original has 2.5mm either.
    The word 'Pentaband' means '5 Bands', from the Greek word 'pente' meaning '5'. For a phone to be pentaband it has to support 5 bands. If the phone has AWS support, it doesn't automatically mean that it is pentaband. The reason Wind and Mobilicity users like pentaband phones is because the reverse is true. We're not the only ones who like pentaband phones though, so please stop referring to phones that work on Wind and Mobilicity as pentaband. It causes unnecessary cofusion.

    O.k I wrote it reversed: It´s the phone that’s 3.5*mm and the headset 2.5. But this is not the real problem…

    Contact CS for TheBoom, they do have adapters for a variety of phones. The buzz is because you are trying to use an Iphone compatible adapter, which is wired Sleeve = Mic+. Nokias are Sleeve = Ground. I have this adapter from kvconnection.com, works great with ety*com headset & N95. It has a sturdy metal female jack, which I wish it was plastic for less weight dangling off the phone.

    Err... I missed the part where you already tried UmeVoice CS, try again now that you have more information.
    Nokia female jack 3.5mm TRRS:
    Tip = Left+
    Ring1 = Right+
    Ring2 = Mic+
    Sleeve = shared Ground

    Many thanks StrangeQuark. I did contact UmeVoice with that info. Let’s see. Not impressed so far with their CS so I don’t expect much. I may cut an adaptor cable and cross conductors until it works…

    What about your ety*com headset. Happy with it? It’s cheaper than TheBoom (which I find bulky and difficult to put in place).…

    What version of TheBoom do you have? What environment are you using it in, for someone to fork over for theBoom it must be rather loud?

    The ety*com is small & lightweight, easy to put on. However, the pressure of the ear tip in the ear canal is the only thing holding it in place. It works for me no problem , but I know some people dislike IEM's. Have you ever used IEM headphones?
    Sound quality is good, both speaker & mic. Just guessing by comparison to foam ear plugs, it blocks about 20 dB ambient noise. I've even tested it in a 105 dB machinery room, the noise is audible to the other person & and I had to speak very loud, but it was understandable. Not that I would ever want to hold a conversation like that. I don't have BT headsets because I don't call a lot, & I don't want to worry about the battery.

    If you want to make your own adapter, the pinout is in the page I linked to.
