Still Alltel - But what happens to my contract?

I'm in Cadillac, MI (49601) and we are one of the last Alltel areas to be converted to V. Though, I've heard we're changing soon.

I've heard conflicting reports of what happens, relative to our contracts. I've heard that V will honor our contract for its duration, then you must get a V contact.

I've also heard second-hand from someone already converted. They kept their Alltel contract and got a Droid X. I *think* they even got the X early (before their Alltel 2-yrs was up).

To me, it seems like bad business to do the former. Then again, I wouldn't put it past them. I like my plan though, I don't want to lose it....

Just trying to prepare. If anybody knows for certain, I'd love to know too.

Have you heard when Cadillac is actually changing over to Verizon. I know you guys have been waiting a long time for the change over to happen.

Is it March now, or June? Nobody seems to know. I am starting to think we will be the last Alltel in the U.S.! But to answer your question you should have the same contract as you have now when ever Verizon does take over.

Can I upgrade phones (renew my contract) and keep the same Alltel plan?

I've heard this summer. One said the end of the summer, the other said the end of the 2nd quarter (?).

I'm happy about it, because it allowed me and my wife to get a smartchoice plan, as well as my brother and his wife.

    still lost here as well

Far So. Michigan is still Alltel too with no end in sight. Our towers have switched to a Verizon SID but my bill just came and it's still Alltel. No one seems to know when things will get changed. I feel your pain here in Hillsdale.

I still have a alltel plan and I was switched to verizon last fall. Since last fall I have gotten a droid a droid x and last month my wife got a droid pro. We are still on the alltel contract. Had to sign a new contract when we got the phones but we are still on the alltel contract.. We even upped our minutes with the alltel plan this winter. The rep said as long as alltels plans are still in the verizon system you can change your plan. But once you change to a verizon plan you can't go back.

Sweet, upgrade phones and keep the plan. That's what I wanted. I don't figure I'll be changing the plan at all--but I don't want to. I just want to keep the plan "forever". Sure could go for a Droid....

I have the droid inc, wife has a palm pixi plus and third line had a droid. We just two days ago changed the pixi from a regular phone dumb phone. I had to specifically ask the rep to look for the 40 dollar smartphone feature. Because she didnt see it for a long time. Tried to get me to switch to a "comparative" verizon plan. Haha. No. so after she looked harder for it she found the feature code. I have on all lines- 7pm nights and weekends, unlimited messaging, 12 my circle numbers, 500 anytime minutes, mobile to mobile, unlimited data plus a few hundred bonus minutes. For 169 a month base price. And I have an employer discount for 20 percent off on top of that. Its essentially unlimited for us. So I'm not changing anytime soon. And I haven't had any real problems with my alltel smart choice plan.
    Socialism is not cool
Only this much more time left before America can ACTUALLY start fixing the mess we are in.

Awesome news being repeated. I have the same plan you do (though without the bonus circle numbers and minutes). I don't want to change, but I don't want to buy ebay phones forever either.

In Missouri and started getting Verizon bills about a year ago. I only use Alltel for Mobile broadband at home as we have no DSL available. Called CS as I was beyond my 2 year contract with Alltel. I was told I could remain on the current plan as long as I wanted. Used 77 gigs last month. $59.99, same as always. What a lucky break.

yeh if anybody is thinking of a data card buy it now while you are still on alltel. because once you switch to verizon and then try to get a data plan you will be capped!

    VZW is here... kinda

Today I see the local (Hillsdale, Mi.) Alltel store has a VZW sign up and there seems to be a new store 1/2 mile from it also displaying the Verizon sign. My account page still says Alltel and when I check the VZW page it still sends me back to Alltel. I assume we are very very close now.

I've heard mid-summer to late summer.

On another note--77 GIGS? How the POOP do you do 77 gigs in one month?

77g was high even for us. My son plays WOW and I think they had a new expansion dl last month. I dl movies each month which would account for about 10-12g itself. We live in a small town with no CATV, no DSL and have the minimum DirecTV package. My son watches movies and TV online as well. Adds up quick. We run between 35-50g each month.

Son just moved out of state for school so should cut us way back. Hopefully we have not been red flagged in any way.

My biggest issue is the bouncing between towers. Tech support told me to get PRL 51933. I have to manually dl my PRL's because of where I am but can't find it online anywhere.
