When will the 2011 expansion plans be out? I complained on FB about my lack of 3g and got this:
AT&T Hi Cynthia, we just heard back from the local network team. They are evaluating the area along 78 for added 3G service. We haven't announced our 2011 expansion plans, but appreciate you providing this feedback to us.

Is this true or am I being put off with yet another excuse? Thank you.

For the past 5 years or so, they have posted the expansion plans for each state starting around the end of February. One year didn't start until late March, though.

    Verizon's 3G network. ............................................ AT&T's 3G network.

    Verizon's 4G network.

Haha, they were supposed to have it done LAST year by the end of 2010, they officially said ALL interstates and highways in AL would be covered with 3G. Don't believe them if they give you a date. Depending on where you are in Heflin, Sprint PCS is an option or for the best coverage, literally 95% of AL is covered by Verizon 3G. No point in keeping on paying for something that doesn't work.

Are you from this area? I thought all of Oxford was 3G now but it is not. We were a mile or so from the interstate and it turned back to E.

Updated with a lot of cities. You can tell which ones are getting LTE when the article mentions upgrading antennas

*Cries* I really would have expected STL to get it

I'm still holding out hope that Raleigh-Durham will because they are so spectrum starved here and it's all PCS.

    Raleigh/Durham

+1 on RDU area crying out more towers/spectrum. The RootMetrics map that is emerging pains a grim picture of their service, and with VZW owning the entire 850Mhz spectrum, I think we are at least a few years out from a dramatic improvement in service. Even then, we'll be stuck for calling on 1900Mhz infrastructure.

Outside of a corporate acquisition, or force spectrum divestitures, is there any precedent of the providers trading on the 850 spectrum band? Thoughts?

They are finally starting to do state-by-state investment plans (which is arguably more important, as you can figure out rural expansion plans by subtracting the planned towers for the metro areas they've already released from the whole state).

    Georgia is the start:

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/ATT-In...56096.html?x=0

It appears that AT&T is going to build 88 new towers outside of the (very largely defined) Atlanta metro area. Additionally, they planning on upgrading 370 towers to 3G. It seems this would provide 3G coverage for nearly all of Georgia when completed.

Interesting read. I found this pretty interesting too:

And people wonder why AT&T is having network problems...
