Hi, I have an iPhone with Rogers on a data plan, 500mb for now.
In any event, I also have a Skype #, I also use a Gmail # to dial out with if my husband is out with my phone for we canceled our home line and at this very moment have only the one phone line.
If my husband is out with the phone but needs to reach me, I have a free phone number that he can dial and my Skype will ring. I can t hen speak to him through this number, although i cannot dial out to him on it.
Everyone who uses this free service all have the same number and then as soon as you dial it, you are asked to dial the extension which in my case, are 3 numbers and it goes through to me.
Not 100 % as good as I would like it but its what we have to deal with so far, at least as far as I know.
My next problem?
I have a friend in the UK, London who does not use a computer. She has some special deal on a card so her phone calls back home, here, to Toronto cost her very little.
I was hoping to find some way of being able to phone her for free but since she does not use a computer, I cant use Skype with her.
I have found a company called DataCalls at www.datacalls.com and I have managed to get a free UK number, which means, if it does what it says it does, she can now phone me anytime and it would cost her no differently than if she were dialing someone in London, but the calls will be re-routed through to my cell phone here in Toronto.
They actually gave me a choice of my cell phone or landline, OR, a VOIP phone on my computer.
VOIP is new to me so I assumed I do not have a VOIP phone unless you consider Skype one?
But for now, they will come through to my cell phone.
I am not worried about using minutes for my Rogers plan is free at nights and weekends but i have a free 700 minutes for the daytime and if I use 30 of those minutes a month that's more than I normally would do so the minutes are not a problem.
BUT and this is the main problem......I was hoping to find a way that I could call HER, rather than having to rely on her calling me. This new London phone number obviously does not enable me to do that.
Does anyone here know of any methods I could use, short of buying credits on Skype in order to call her in the UK?
( the challenge is that it must be free in order to do so )
Thanks, and if anyone can point me in the right direction, I wold be forever grateful!!!

We have started a company that allows you to get a UK based number. Then your friend could call a UK number, which will ring on a local phone here in Canada. It uses a SIP client that you can download for free. If your friend also subscribes, you can effectively have unlimited calling between you. Our company is called diwiphone.
