Use VM Top Up cards for Common Cents

Not sure how long it has been this way, but according to the Common Cents website, you can now use Virgin Mobile Top Up cards to add airtime to a Common Cents account. It makes me wonder how long Common Cents will be around.

Just like Assurance Wireless, you can probably use some Virgin Mobile phones on the Common Cents mobile service (older VM phones and some from the current paylo service).

    Trademarks and Licenses

The Common Cents Mobile name and logo are trademarks of Virgin Mobile USA, L.P. Common Cents Mobile products and services are licensed under U.S. Patents 5,722,067; 6,157,823; and 6,236,851.

Operating without a contract makes you far more valuable.

If Common Cents slashed their prices to match or at least approach Ptel levels, they might have a chance. Especially on data. CC Mobile is a prepaid division and not an mvno so can actually offer lower prices then Ptel in theory. They should use their ability to garner the same profit for a lesser rate then an mvno or a greater profit at the same rate. That would get a lot more attention (and best VM).

Ptel stands for what here? Or is it a cell company that also focuses on prepaid customers?

What is VM short for here?

Also earlier today me and a friend went to Walmart so he could buy a Common Cents card. But they were all gone, he asked the clerk if they had more and she said no. Then an old man who was passing by said: No Walmart carries these cards anymore.

So I thought Sprint finally pulled the plug on the whole program. We called the customer support and asked (not sure if it was an american csr, he could have been overseas for all I know) but after explaining the story to him he said that no, CC is not shutting down and that we should look for the Virgin Top Up cards. Which sounded REALLY strange to me.

So I analyzed the CC website and saw the pictures of the Virgin cards there, went back to the store, got them and tried it out. And it actually worked. I wasn't expecting it to but it did.

So is Sprint doing away with the CC cards and wanting people to only use the Virgin cards from now on?

Also I used their "Find a Store" link, and no matter what zip code I used, I couldn't find a location that had any of their products (both refill cards & phones/accessories).
    Try it out yourself: http://stores.commoncentsmobile.com/cgi-bin/search.pl

I also noticed that the store didn't have any of the Common Cents phones either. So that's making me think they really are pulling the plug.

    Edit:
Just checked Walmart's site, they don't have any of the phones at all but have the cards? Maybe they are selling off the rest of the inventory.

Ptel stands for Platinum Tel and their Real Pay go plan, the lowest flat rate straight paygo prices in the US. (5 cents a minute, 2 cents a text, 10 cents a meg .)

    VM stands for Virgin Mobile.

I'd like to know if VM phones work on Common Cents too. Byod tricks with Sprint prepaid /mvno carriers are always good to know.

Another good Sprint mvno is Mingo Wireless. They have really good customer care. Unlike most Sprint prepaid divisions (Boost Mobile, VM, etc. ).
