With regards to IBM I believed Microsoft kept information while they supposedly worked on OS2 they at the same time apparently moved funds to develop Windows and kept delaying OS2 then IBM took over the development while Microsoft was supposed to develop OS2.3 which later became Windows NT and IBM and MS broke up the joint venture

Any worse than Steve Wozniak purposely tanking the Apple computer so HP couldn't sell it for profit? (although I can't fault Woz for that, I would have done the same thing)
OS2 was a POS OS anyway. The thing was a compatibility nightmare, and extremely limited. I remember when I got an early copy of it, and slammed it. My friends that I was nuts (especially with the companies involved making it).
^ Then again I'm not that much more confident about WM7. Sure WM7 won't tank like OS2, but I don't see what will make people drop their iPhone or Android for it. IMO "best case scenario" is that it will top off at 3rd place...
I wonder why people hate WP7 that much. I have decided not to even get into conversations like this because most of the people out here are ignorant and talk with out facts and expect all of to either agree with their BS or they will keep fighting
MY HOFO FEEDBACK
all help given is free, and as is. I'd hate for someone to try and sue me for a mobile bill
I don't see much hate for WP7. It seems like a fine operating system, although it needs some upgrading, such as cut & paste and multitasking, which are reportedly coming soon (although MSFT has a long history of missing deadlines). Its main problem is that the market is not interested - it's losing market share, while Android is growing rapidly and Apple is doing well - and developers don't care - they're mainly developing for Android and Apple. The choice of WP7 seems a bad business decision on Nokia's part, as evidenced by the massive decline in its stock price following the announcement that it's going with WP7.
Windows phone UI really is nice. To me when I'm done using one at the store, its like phone-candy that I crave to have my UI be that smooth etc. But It's so limited its a short lived craving.

Yep. Out-of-the-box performance seems to be running a close 2nd in terms of priorities these days. People want something quirky, easy to use, and chalked full of available apps to throw in. RIM was able to bridge the gap between their main customer base (business/IT) and others. Maybe there's a chance something similar coming from the joint venture?

Spend a week with a Samsung Focus like I did and see how excited you get. WM7 is barebones and needs tons of work (you'll see how much work is needed underneath those floor tiles).
As for the "hate" for WM7. Well first take a look at the stock before the "announcement" and where it is today (and yes the stock took another nosedive today). Second, many people were quite content waiting this past year for Symbian/Meego/QT. Third, for those that wanted a change, it was all about Android. Shareholders for the past couple of years have been screaming for it, tech reviewers/bloggers have nothing but disappointment/frusteration as well. Forth, Elop still gets hits with questions if he's a trojan for Microsoft. Finally (for those that got burned with the N97) Nokia basically waived the rallying flag around for the N8. After PR 2.0, you may not see another update again for the device. (N97 only received 2 updates as well)...
