Samsung SGH-A847 Rugby II earpiece volume

I have a new Rugby II that I was issued for work. We are in a shop environment and I cannot hear on the phone's earpiece. Even in the car it barely overcomes road noise. I have found the *#8999*8378# code onlie that gets me into the hardware menu on all my other Samsung phones except this one. I need help from anyone for a code to override the volume limiting. Thanks!

    A solution!

I was struggling with this problem with my Rugby II also, and have found a solution.

First, to get into test mode on the A847, the code is

    *#197328640#

    Then you want to choose

    8 Audio
1 RCV config (RCV = earpiece; EAR = headset, SPK = speaker, BTH = Bluetooth)
    3 Call Config

The call volume table is at 1 RCV Rx Call Vol, and the default values (in my phone) ranged from -16.5db for step 0 to +7.5dB at step 6.

The codec gain value is at 3 RCV Codec Gain and the default value you'd change is 4.cod_rx 3 dB

You can increase the codec gain, or modify the individual steps in the volume table.

Very curiously, when I rebuilt the RCV table (6 Rebuild on the main Audio menu), the call volume table now had substantially louder values, from +0dB at step 0 to +12dB at step 6. I expected the original default values to return, and this may relate to why only some people complain about low volume.

For the Bluetooth table, I was unable to modify an individual entry in the BTH Rx Call Vol table -- I don't know why, but all entries updated with whatever value I entered to update one entry. The RCV table updates fine; I didn't try updating EAR or SPK.

How to enter numbers: First enter the number of the line you want to change and press OK (left soft key), and "READ" in the screen changes to "WRITE". Then enter the new value and press OK. The Codec Gain table is in full dB steps and takes a leading zero as a minus sign. The Call Vol table values are in tenths of dBs and leading zeros are ok. The * key enters a minus sign.

The Rugby II does retain the updated values over a reboot; some other Samsung phones do not.

    ---------------

Here's what I ended up using:

    1) I rebuilt the RCV table, which increased the earpiece volume substantially.

    2) I reduced the RCV Codec Gain from +3 db to 0 dB, as the volume was really too high and I was getting some distortion.

    3) I increased the BTH Codec Gain from 0 db to +10 dB, as I could not modify the individual entries for BTH.

    I hope this helps!
