Question Virgin Mobile SuperTab help please

    Hello everyone,

I have a question in regards to the SuperTab plan being offered by VM.ca

Let's take the iPhone 4 16GB for example:

    VM SuperTab
    Retail price: $659
    You pay: $159
You owe: $500 on your SuperTab
Let's assume you pick an $80/month plan
10% of $80 goes towards your VMST each month

My question and confusion here lies in the fact that assuming you decide to terminate/cancel your entire service/contract with VM what happens next?
Do you simply have to pay your remaining VMST balance which is in fact the whole cost of your phone and you're out just like that? No contract termination fees, etc.?

    Thank you

when you cancel you pay off the remaining balance of the tab.
so if you have $200 left on the tab that would be your cancellation fee.

According to their website after paying the balance on your tab other fees may apply!

I'm positive that by other fees they mean any outstanding balance you may have, such as unpaid bills or interest on those bills.
Prepaid is to contract like a mistress is to a wife. No wonder so many people don't want contracts

Here is the quote you asked for where VM claims more than just the tab will be owing upon early termination!

    Quote
"if you end your Membership Agreement, remove your voice rate plan or remove your data services prior to paying the outstanding credit balance of your Virgin Mobile SuperTab (for Virgin Mobile SuperTab Members), you'll be subject to payment of any applicable amounts set out in your Membership Agreement (an “Early Termination Fee”).
The transfer of your telephone number to another telecommunications service provider constitutes a termination of your Services.
    " Unquote

Does that sound like you only owe the balance on your Tab?
    I didn't think so either!
I've already placed an order with Koodoo!

Thank you. Still slightly confusing. Perhaps a VM rep browsing these forums can clear this up for us.

your cancellation fee will be the remaining balance left on the tab.
no other fees will be charged as johnnydee has mentioned previously.

one bad thing about the tab is only 10% of your bill is going to pay it down.
it is usually better to buy smartphones on a 3 year term, and dumb/regular phones on the tab.

it will take you 63 months to pay off a $500 tab based on a $80/month plan, $8/month going to pay it off.

lets compare the tab to a 3 year term for an iPhone 4 on a $80/month plan.
the initial "pay now" price will be $160 for both a 3 year term and supertab.

as pointed out above, it will take 63 months to pay off the tab.
in 5 years it is unlikely you will still want to use the iPhone 4.

on the contract your subsidy is paid off after 36 months.
in 3 years you will be free to leave virgin mobile.
the ECF for a smartphone with data is as follows:
    1) $20/month month remaining ($100 minimum, $400 maximum)
    2) if you cancel within the first year a $250 data cancellation fee will also apply

it is up to you to do the number crunch to figure out what option is better for you.
but personally i would suggest getting the iPhone 4 on a 3 year term, not the supertab.

So I guess to clear this up a bit, you are saying that an ETF and a Tab are the same thing!
Even if I heard from VM directly I wouldn't believe it.
I think we need to hear from someone who has canceled and had to only pay the Tab balance to do so!

That is exactly what i am saying. The virgin supertab works exactly the same as the koodo tad. Your ecf is you cancelation fee and it will be reduced by 10% of your bill each month. The remaining balance when you cancel is the only sum you have to pay.

I think the point live strong is missing comparing the 36 month contract to the tab is for people unhappy with the terms of there long term contract.
If you want to cancel the 36 month contract in teh first year you will owe $400 cancellation plus $200 to $250 data fees.
The tab contract you will owe the balance of the tab.
If you cancel 16 months in your contract you will owe $400.
Again the tab will be the same just reduced by 10% per month.
I beleive if you are happy paying your monthly amount times 36 then the 36 month is better for you.
If you see a better phone or cheaper plan before the 36 month term ends you are better with a tab contract.

    This is where we disagree!
You state the ECF is the tab and I say it is something in addition too.
AS stated by the way in VM small print that I have shared above!
You will have to pay any outstanding amounts ie " the Tab" then you will owe an ECF!

John please stop confusing the issue.
i suggest you to call virgin to verify what i am saying because you seem not to believe me, 1-888-999-2321.

if you end your Membership Agreement, remove your voice rate plan or remove your data services prior to paying the outstanding credit balance of your Virgin Mobile SuperTab (for Virgin Mobile SuperTab Members), you'll be subject to payment of any applicable amounts set out in your Membership Agreement (an “Early Termination Fee”).

the remaining tab balance is all you have to pay when you leave.
of course unbilled usage will also be charged, but that is a given.
The transfer of your telephone number to another telecommunications service provider constitutes a termination of your Services.

allow me to translate the legal statement to plain english for you.

if you end your services before paying the SuperTab balance you will have to pay the amount as outlined in your membership agreement.
they are referring to this amount as an "early termination fee".
porting your number to another provider will cancel your services and you will be subject to the ECF as outlined in your membership agreement.
