There was an article in the Waterloo paper about a tower going up in that area and how the MP is
involved now. It said some other towers were going to be going up as soon as the frost was out of the ground!

There was quite some talk during the Dec/Jan period of people who decided to activate a Holiday Miracle plan while it was still around even though WIND service was not yet in their area.
The premise was that because it was such a 'good offer', it was just too much to pass up so many of us decided to grab one and keep the account active (even though we were not yet using it yet but rather still with our incumbent carriers) until WIND expansion reached our respective areas.
I haven't heard much as of late from members of this camp so just curious as to whether there still are people 'holding out hope' that coverage will reach them in the near future to warrant the ongoing payments in order to keep the account?
I myself expected it would be at least 8-10 months (at the earliest) back in December before WIND would arrive to the Guelph/Kitchener/Waterloo area, but now I have having second thoughts about this.
So, my question now is are there others in the same situation as me still optimistic that the wait will be worth it (to keep this account going while concurrently paying their existing carriers monthly fees) and that we will ultimately still come out ahead in the long run with this Holiday Miracle plan??

Well your guess is as good as any, but I would not have activated a plan hoping for Wind to expand to my area, just my opinion. But, as an alternative, maybe you can (I don't know if this is even feasible) use a voip provider for phone calls and port your number. This will at least relieve you from paying 2 bills.
I understand you may be able to even use google voice.
oops but you would still be roaming, sorry this doesn't work.
I think its worth it to keep the miracle plan going until WIND reaches your area. It would only cost you $20 / year to keep it (remember my $5 Trick!).

@djino, how you get the irresistible plan for $35 I thought this was for western cities only?! And don't say I have to kill you if you tell me. Lol.
Ahh yes, I do remember that technique you outlined before. Unfortunately I had ALREADY bought full amounts for the 3 Miracle lines ($40 each) and 1 Unlimited Laptop ($20) when I activated so I used them to top up at about the 80th day. Maybe it's just the $140+tax that I just paid which sticks out as a large sum of money, but in reality I suppose it will be well worth it.
Definitely paying $5 per cycle is way better, so I may just continue doing that and wait it out. Thanks!

What is the $5 trick? As I am thinking of bailing back to Fido. They are more expensive but hell, Wind is utterly rubbish in my place. So I rather have a phone that actually works. Having said that, assuming Wind survives their upcoming bout with the CRTC. I would like to keep the plan for future reference. At least for a couple of months if it means keeping it cheaply.

I gave up waiting for Wind in Barrie. Went back to Rogers. I have to say, when I called Wind their CSR's were utterly useless, clueless and seemed disinterested in any questions I was asking. At the time, I ordered a BB Bold 9700 that was lightly used. Paid for it right away, but never was shipped the Bold. I had to threaten to go to the CC company I used to pay and said I was going to file a dispute (phone never came) Reluctantly, the supervisor I spoke to, refunded the money. All in all it was frustrating. Aside from the odd clueless rep at Bell, Wind and Rogers (who I deal with now) I have to say the nicest CSR's I've dealt with have been Rogers, the worst, Bell. Wind is lost in the middle.
Why bother? Rates are going down, not up. Whatever money you're spending now to use a phone you can't use is all wasted.
But at least the money is going to Wind, and that's good. Plus it's not my money that's being wasted. Keep up the good work donating money to Wind! Yay!
